Four games remained. Katie Lou Samuelson will not play in any of them.
The Seattle Storm guard has had surgery on her left knee. The franchise said she misses the rest of the season and gave no detail on the arthroscopic procedure. “Your Storm family is with you, Lou. We are sending all our love and support, and we wish you a speedy recovery,” the club posted on social media Friday.
Seattle sit bottom of the WNBA at 8-32. The season was gone a long time ago. Samuelson’s just ended a few days ahead of everyone else’s.

Fourth overall in 2019, one start in 2026
Samuelson, 29, finishes the campaign averaging 4.4 points and 2.1 rebounds. She appeared in 32 games and started one of them. Rotation numbers, not starter numbers.
The starting point promised more than that. Chicago took her fourth overall in the 2019 draft out of UConn, where she won a national title in 2016. A top-five pick arrives carrying expectations.
Seven years on, the résumé fits on a single line: 170 games, 73 starts, 5.6 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists. Then there is the list of stops. The Sky in 2019, Dallas in 2020, Seattle in 2021 and again this year, the Sparks in 2022, Indiana in 2024.
What it means for the run-in
The Storm host the Las Vegas Aces on Thursday with an even thinner rotation and nothing left to play for in the standings.
Late-season dead rubbers deserve a careful eye from bettors. Minutes get handed around, young players see the floor far more than usual, and team totals drift well off season averages. Samuelson’s absence barely shifts the volume on its own. It just lengthens an already long list in Seattle.
