A $1,000 fine and a deferred count
Josh Jacobs spent Thursday morning in a Green Bay courtroom. He left it without saying a word to the reporters waiting outside.
The Packers running back pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors, battery and criminal damage to property. The court fined him $1,000 plus costs on the battery count. On the criminal damage charge it deferred proceedings for twelve months, which means the count gets dismissed if Jacobs meets every term of the agreement. A follow-up hearing already sits on the calendar for Sept. 10, 2027.
“I fully understand the seriousness of the situation and I take full responsibility,” Jacobs said, per ESPN.

What the agreement requires
The terms run well past the money. Jacobs must avoid all contact with the alleged victim, attend counseling, stay under the supervision of criminal justice officials and pay restitution. Multiple reports confirmed each condition after the hearing.
The charges trace back to a May arrest just outside Green Bay that local police logged as a “disturbance complaint”. Jacobs had been due in court in November. He asked for the date to be brought forward, and Thursday is where it landed.
The NFL placed him on the commissioner’s exempt list on Aug. 27. That designation has kept him away from games while the case moved through the courts.
A backfield built around him
Green Bay paid for a lead back. Jacobs signed a four-year, $48 million contract in 2024 and produced 929 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns across 15 starts last season, plus 36 catches for 282 yards and another score.
The 28-year-old arrived in Wisconsin with a résumé behind him: three Pro Bowls, a first-team All-Pro selection in 2022, and the NFL rushing title that same year with 1,653 yards for the Raiders. Las Vegas took him 24th overall out of Alabama in 2019. Seven seasons in, he sits on 7,803 rushing yards and 74 touchdowns from 105 games, with 269 catches for 2,072 yards.
None of that answers the question the Packers cannot answer yet, which is when, or whether, he plays again this season. That call sits with the league office now.
