Jablonec vs Brighton & Hove Albion: Gómez’s halfway-line goal and a 6,000-seat ground
Diego Gómez scored from his own half after seven minutes at the Amex on Sunday. Crystal Palace were already behind to a Canvot own goal, Ayari added a third on ten minutes, and Brighton finished 5-0 winners, with Kostoulas and Hinshelwood scoring after the break.
That’s six wins in a row for Fabian Hürzeler’s side, who are third in the Premier League after seven games and unbeaten in seven in all competitions. Arsenal were beaten 3-0 at the Amex in September, Manchester United 3-2 at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup.
On Thursday Brighton go to the Stadion Střelnice in Jablonec nad Nisou, a ground that holds a little over 6,000. Kick-off is 17:45 UK time, the forecast is 6°C, and the 1,003 away tickets sold out at £17 each.
Jablonec have lost two in a row, both 3-2. Freiburg beat them in Germany last Thursday and Viktoria Plzeň won at Střelnice on Sunday. Luboš Kozel’s side are seventh in the Czech league with 17 points from 11 games, ten behind leaders Slavia Prague.
The clubs have never met. Brighton opened their league phase with a 4-0 win over Kauno Žalgiris, while Jablonec are on zero points after the defeat in Freiburg.
Brighton are priced around 1.30 to win. I think they win comfortably, and the question for me is by how many.
Jablonec: two 3-2 defeats in four days and a penalty taken away
Plzeň led 2-0 at half-time on Sunday. Dweh scored from a free kick and Kabongo with a shot from close to halfway, then Memić added a third. Zorvan pulled one back and Faal’s own goal on 84 minutes made it close, but a Jablonec penalty was overturned after the referee went to the monitor.
In Freiburg they trailed 2-1 and 3-1 before Kuol scored in the third minute of stoppage time. Rusek had equalised on 29 minutes after Grifo’s free kick, but Pavlović’s own goal early in the second half put Freiburg back in front.
Over their last five games Jablonec have averaged 1.2 goals scored and 1.8 conceded. Before the two defeats they’d won 1-0 at Zbrojovka Brno and 1-0 at home to Dukla Prague, which is closer to the way Kozel wants them to play.
The league record is five wins, two draws and four defeats, with 14 goals scored and 12 conceded in 11 games. Jablonec have scored more than once in only two of their last five matches, and both of those were the 3-2 defeats.
They beat RFS in both legs of the third qualifying round, then lost 1-0 at Ibrox before winning by the same score at home and knocking Rangers out on penalties.
Kozel will be without Mihelak, Jawo, Milla and Suchan. That leaves Rusek to lead the line, with Kuol, Chanturishvili and Zorvan behind him as they were against Plzeň.

Brighton & Hove Albion: six straight wins and nothing conceded in Europe
Brighton haven’t conceded in three European games this season. The last five games in all competitions have produced 17 goals for and two against, an average of 3.4 scored and 0.4 conceded.
Rutter scored twice against Kauno Žalgiris, on 41 and 53 minutes, with Osman providing both. Hinshelwood scored on the stroke of half-time and Matt O’Riley added the fourth on 67 minutes. Hinshelwood is back from injury and scored again on Sunday.
That 4-0 put Brighton top of the Conference League table after one round. Jablonec sit 23rd with no points and a goal difference of minus one.
The absences are mostly in the Premier League squad. Kaoru Mitoma (hamstring), Yankuba Minteh (calf) and Mats Wieffer (knee) aren’t registered for the Conference League in any case. Ferguson, Azeez, Tzimas and Yohanna are also out, and Struijk is being assessed after a hamstring problem kept him out of the Kauno game.
With a Premier League game on Sunday, Hürzeler is likely to change his side again. That didn’t matter last Thursday, when a changed side beat Kauno 4-0 with Rutter, Osman and O’Riley all involved, and none of them started against Palace.
Away from home Brighton have won 5-0 at Coventry, 2-0 at Sunderland and 3-2 at Old Trafford this season. The one thing they haven’t done yet is play on a small, cold ground in front of a crowd of 6,000, and I don’t see it changing much.

Free Conference League Prediction: Jablonec vs Brighton & Hove Albion
Our prediction: Brighton -1 handicap (to win by two goals or more)
At around 1.30 the straight Brighton win is too short to back, so I’m taking them to win by at least two. They’ve scored three or more in five of their last six games, and their last five have produced 17 goals for and two against.
Jablonec have conceded three in each of their last two matches, against Freiburg and Plzeň, and they’re missing Jawo and three others. Kozel’s side are hard to break down when they keep it tight, which is the honest argument against this, and they beat Rangers that way in August.
A rotated Brighton side beat Kauno 4-0 last week without needing the players who started on Sunday, and I’d expect something similar at Střelnice: 2-0 or 3-0, with the game settled well before the end.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.
