Two titles, one tournament
Iva Jovic now has two WTA titles. Both came in Guadalajara.
The 18-year-old American kept hold of the Mexican trophy she won last year on Saturday, beating compatriot Peyton Stearns 6-4, 6-2. One hour and 26 minutes. She did not drop a set all week.
Some players spend years waiting to find a surface that suits them. Jovic never had to go looking.

Not one break point conceded in the final
The final was decided on serve. Jovic did not face a single break point against Stearns. She converted three of her five chances. She won 70% of points behind her first ball, 40 out of 57, against 59% for her opponent.
The Los Angeles native never once had to chase the match.
Stearns, ranked 60th in the world, also has two tour titles. Rabat in May 2024, Austin in February. She leaves Mexico having been kept at arm’s length from first ball to last.
Jovic is up to No. 16 in the world. At 18, with two trophies on the shelf.
In Sao Paulo, the seeds went out
Same weekend, different event, familiar twist. The two highest-ranked players left at the SP Open were both knocked out in the semifinals.
Kaitlin Quevedo, the seventh seed, came through in three sets against Anna Blinkova (6-4, 2-6, 6-4) in 2 hours 23 minutes, and she served seven double faults doing it. Nadia Podoroska was cleaner. Ranked 317th in the world and unseeded, the Argentine beat Paula Badosa 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and a half.
Podoroska converted six of 11 break points. That was the match.
