Ipswich Town vs Bournemouth: six straight wins, 16 goals and none conceded for Marco Rose Premier League

Bournemouth have won six in a row in all competitions, scored 16 and conceded none. Before Marco Rose arrived they’d won two of their first eight games.

That run has taken in a 3-0 win at Old Trafford, a 3-0 win over AC Milan and a 2-0 win over Leeds last time out. They’ve also just recorded three straight Premier League wins without conceding, a first for the club.

The next stop is Portman Road on Sunday 8 November, 14:00 UK time. Ipswich Town are 14th with 11 points from nine games, three wins, two draws and four defeats, and they’ve let in 18.

Bournemouth are eighth on 12 points, so the league table still separates these two by a single point.

Sparta Prague away on Thursday is the only reason the price is as long as it is. Bournemouth are around 2.00, Ipswich around 4.00 and the draw 3.80. I’d rather be with the side that hasn’t conceded in six games.

Ipswich Town: 14 scored, 18 conceded and three players stuck on two goals Ipswich Town

Gary O’Neil took over a promoted side and has them mid-table after nine matches at 1.22 points a game. Nobody at the club has more than two league goals, with Emersonn, Julio Enciso and Leif Davis sharing the lead.

That spread has its uses. Ipswich have scored 14 in nine, the same as Bournemouth, and they scored twice at the Etihad in a 3-2 defeat on 17 October.

Portman Road has been reasonable. Fulham were beaten 2-1 on 10 October and Nottingham Forest held to a 1-1 draw on 23 October, while a 2-2 at Hull last Saturday made it two draws in a row.

Eighteen conceded is the second-worst record in the division, behind only Crystal Palace’s 21, and Ipswich have let in at least one in each of their last five league games.

Sasa Lukic has a groin problem and is doubtful. Jack Taylor is back in training after a knee injury, which gives O’Neil an extra body in midfield if Lukic misses out.

Bournemouth: Evanilson’s five goals in six and a back line Rose has shut Bournemouth

Evanilson has scored five goals in his last six games, and he’s expected to keep his place up front in Prague. He’s the finisher this run has needed, and Ipswich’s defence doesn’t look like the one to stop him.

The clean sheets come from a side that barely gives anything away now. Antonio Silva and James Hill have been the centre-back pair, with Bafode Diakite pushing to come in, and Di Gregorio hasn’t been beaten in six matches.

Europe has gone just as well. Three wins from three in the league phase, including 2-1 at Real Sociedad, puts Bournemouth third in the Europa League table. No club had won its first three European matches since Sunderland in 1973-74.

The squad is being stretched, and that’s the one worry on Sunday. Alex Scott is getting closer to a hamstring return, but Alex Toth and Julian Araujo remain out with thigh injuries and Veljko Milosavljevic is doubtful with a knock.

Rose has options to rotate. Ben Gannon-Doak, Lewis Cook, Amine Adli and Eli Junior Kroupi are all pushing for starts, so Thursday needn’t cost him his best side for Sunday.

Our prediction: Bournemouth to win at 2.00

I’d back Bournemouth. Six wins without conceding isn’t a run you bet against at even money, least of all when the opponent has let in 18 in nine league games and hasn’t kept a clean sheet in its last five league matches.

Thursday night in Prague is the honest case for Ipswich. Neither Fulham nor Forest won at Portman Road last month, and a tired away side conceding first would change this game completely.

Rose’s squad has handled the same schedule all through this run, though, including the trips to Old Trafford and San Sebastian. Evanilson is scoring, the defence hasn’t been breached since before the run began, and 2.00 is too big for that.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
