Ipswich Town vs Liverpool: four goals shipped in two games for the Reds 
Liverpool have already conceded four goals across their opening two Premier League matches. They still havent won a league game this season.
Two 2-2 draws, away at Newcastle and at home to Nottingham Forest, leave the Reds 13th with two points. Ipswich Town are 12th with three.
Kick-off is on Friday 4 September at 20:00 local time, 21:00 in France, at Portman Road. It opens the third round of fixtures.
The Tractor Boys arrive on the back of a rough night at Old Trafford, where they were beaten 5-2 by Manchester United on 30 August. They still found the net twice.
That has been the story of their start to the season: Ipswich have scored in both matches, for a total of four goals. Six against them is doing real damage to the goal difference.
Liverpool look different, but the points tally is hardly any better. Four goals scored, four conceded, and two leads thrown away.
So this match comes down to both sides wobbling at the back. Neither team has kept a clean sheet yet this season.
Ipswich have taken three points from six, Liverpool two. Only one point separates them heading into this third round.
The Reds still havent won in the league since the season began. Their two draws have both ended 2-2 and followed similar patterns.
Portman Road, though, has been kind to the Tractor Boys. Their only league win so far came there against Sunderland.
Ipswich Town: a goal in every match, but six conceded 
Ipswich opened their campaign with a 2-1 win over Sunderland at Portman Road on 22 August. Emersonn struck in the 24th minute, with Jack Clarke bagging the winner in the 90th.
That remains the club’s only league win to date. It came at home, tight and tense, and was settled at the death.
The trip to Manchester United went very differently. Ipswich lost 5-2, shipping five goals in one game.
Leif Davis had replied in the 29th minute before Chuba Akpom pulled one back in the 90+1. Four different scorers in two matches is at least something to cling to.
The Old Trafford defeat pushed their total to six goals conceded in two games. That leaves them with the third worst defence in the division after two rounds.
The key point is the setting: Portman Road has delivered the club’s only three points. Ipswich have scored twice there and go into Liverpool’s visit with nothing to lose.
Four different players have scored for Ipswich in two matches. Emersonn, Jack Clarke, Leif Davis and Chuba Akpom share the club’s four goals.
Two of those goals came in the 90th minute or later. They keep fighting, even when the game is already gone.
The 5-2 loss at Old Trafford has pushed the average to three goals conceded per game. Ipswich will need to tighten up if they want to see this one out.

Liverpool: Isak and Gakpo on target, but two leads wasted 
Liverpool have taken only two points from six in their first two league games. Two 2-2 draws, both with goals conceded.
At Newcastle, Cody Gakpo scored in the 55th minute and Dominik Szoboszlai equalised from the spot in the 90+9. So the point was nicked deep into stoppage time.
Against Nottingham Forest, Alexander Isak struck in the 60th minute and Victor Munoz added a second in the 82nd. Even Anfield was not enough to get the job done.
Four different scorers in two matches shows the attack is sharing the load. The issue is clearly at the other end, with four goals conceded in the same period.
Andoni Iraola is in charge this season and has had to deal with several departures, plus the task of bedding in the newcomers. Bradley Barcola, signed from Paris Saint-Germain for 123 million pounds in the summer 2026 window, is one of the club’s biggest statements.
The key problem is finishing the job: Liverpool have led or been level in both matches and still failed to see them out. A third draw would pile real pressure on the Reds this early in September.
Liverpool sit 13th, a strange place for them at this stage. Two points from two is fewer than Sunderland, Ipswich or Leeds United.
Cody Gakpo, Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexander Isak and Victor Munoz are the four Reds scorers. None has more than one goal.
Szoboszlai’s 90+9 penalty at Newcastle sums up their season so far. Points are being scraped out late, not earned with control.
