Selhurst Park held out until the final minutes
Ipswich Town went to Crystal Palace this afternoon and came away with a 3-2 win. The promoted side are up to seventh, which is not where many had them after four games.
Palace had started brightly enough. Anan Khalaili opened the scoring in the 14th minute, set up by Daichi Kamada, for his first goal in his new colours. Nine minutes later, Emersonn levelled with a simple header from a cross by Leif Davis from the left.
The turning point came with Axel Disasi’s red card, shown for a high, late tackle on Jack Clarke. Ipswich made the extra man count by flipping the script on their two biggest threats down the left: this time Emersonn nodded it on for Davis, who scored with a header at the far post.

Flemming breaks his duck at the worst possible time for Palace
With 15 minutes left in normal time, Jorgen Strand Larsen hauled Palace level with a swivel and strike. Down to 10 men, that equaliser mattered a lot.
Khalaili had a second goal at his mercy. He fluffed it. Palace paid for it when Walter Benitez pushed away a Davis header and Zian Flemming followed up to bundle the ball home. It was Flemming’s first goal since arriving from Burnley, a signing Ipswich fans had started to wonder about in the quietest way possible.
Two runs head in opposite directions
Palace had picked up their first win of the season last week at Fulham. That little run is over now, and Disasi’s red card will weigh heavily in the dressing-room review.
Ipswich, meanwhile, are building an awkward little idea for everyone else to deal with: the promoted side are not just here to hang on. Leif Davis had a hand in all three of his team’s goals, with an assist, a header, and the saved shot that Flemming converted. A left-back influencing a game like that gets noticed. The question is whether he can keep it up across a full season.
