Inter Miami vs FC Cincinnati: 73 goals scored against 71 conceded
FC Cincinnati have conceded 71 goals in 31 MLS games this season. Inter Miami have scored 73, the most in the league. When the two meet at Nu Stadium on Wednesday 28 October, kick-off 7:30pm ET (11:30pm UK time), the best attack in MLS faces a defence that has let in more than two a game.
Those totals explain what Cincinnati games have looked like all season. They’ve scored 64 and let in 71, which works out at more than four goals a game, and Miami’s matches average just over four as well, 73 scored and 53 conceded.
The standings give the game a different weight for each side. Miami are third in the Eastern Conference on 55 points, while Cincinnati are eighth on 42, four points above the playoff line after 31 games. Kily Gonzalez’s side are chasing position, Pat Noonan’s are protecting a place.
The recent meetings have been extreme in both directions. Miami won 5-3 in Cincinnati on 14 May and 4-0 there in November 2025, while Cincinnati won 3-0 at home in July 2025 and the return game in Miami ten days later finished 0-0. Over 15 meetings in all competitions, Miami have won eight, Cincinnati five, and two have been drawn.
Both teams come in off the same weekend, with Miami beaten 2-0 by the New York Red Bulls and Cincinnati winning 2-0 at D.C. United. I think the season-long numbers matter more than either of those results, and they point towards goals.
Inter Miami: the league’s top attack, and a Messi streak that ended on Saturday
Lionel Messi had a direct goal involvement in 14 straight matches before Saturday’s defeat at the Red Bulls. That run ended in a game where Casemiro scored an early own goal and Miami never recovered, and it was only their second loss in six games, after three straight wins in which they scored nine and conceded one.
Those wins came in quick succession: 4-0 against D.C. United on 10 October, 2-0 against NYCFC four days later and 3-1 at Atlanta on 17 October. The only other defeat in that stretch was a 2-1 at Columbus on 27 September, and a 2-2 with San Diego came just before it.
Messi’s record against this opponent is the obvious starting point. He has seven goal involvements against Cincinnati in the last two meetings, the 4-0 and the 5-3, and he’s expected to start with Luis Suarez and Berterame alongside him.
Gonzalez has kept his side settled, naming the same eleven in three straight matches. The probable side has St. Clair in goal behind Lujan, Casemiro, Falcon and Reguilon, with De Paul, Bright and Galarza in midfield. Maximiliano Falcon is available again after serving a suspension for yellow cards.
Gonzalez has three players out or doubtful. Tadeo Allende is recovering from a knee injury, Mateo Silvetti is doubtful with a shoulder problem and Israel Boatwright is out with a cruciate ligament tear.

FC Cincinnati: four points above the line, and six players missing
Cincinnati arrive on two straight wins, both against D.C. United: 2-1 at home on 21 October and 2-0 away on Saturday. Before that they’d lost 2-0 to Columbus and 3-2 to New England, which is why the gap to the playoff line is only four points.
Evander scored the winner on Saturday and remains the player the attack runs through. He has registered at least 15 assists in each of the last three MLS seasons, a record only Messi shares, and Tom Barlow’s goal in the same game made him the third Cincinnati player to reach double figures in the league this season.
Evander’s availability needs checking before kick-off, though, because one team-news report lists him as doubtful, and Cincinnati are already without Miles Robinson, Julian Malatini, Tyrell Malacia, Ender Echenique, Martinez and Gidi.
Robinson started all four of Cincinnati’s recently recorded meetings with Miami, so his absence changes a back line that has already conceded 71. Noonan is expected to rely on a back three of Smith, Hagglund and Hadebe in front of Celentano, against the front line that scored nine in the last two meetings in Cincinnati.
Cincinnati’s attack can still hurt Miami, because they’ve scored 64 league goals, more than two a game, and the probable pairing of Barlow and Denkey will have Evander and Valenzuela supplying them from midfield and the left.
Probable lineup Inter Miami: St. Clair; Lujan, Casemiro, Falcon, Reguilon; De Paul, Bright, Galarza; Messi, Suarez, Berterame
Probable lineup FC Cincinnati: Celentano; Smith, Hagglund, Hadebe; Powell, Bucha, Evander, Nwobodo, Valenzuela; Barlow, Denkey

Our prediction: Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals
Cincinnati’s games this season have produced 135 goals in 31 matches, and Miami’s 126. Both sides score more than two a game, and Cincinnati’s defence, which has let in 71, is missing Robinson and Malatini.
The head-to-head points the same way when it opens up: 5-3 in May, 4-0 in November, 3-0 in July 2025. The 0-0 in Miami in July 2025 is the counterexample, and it came ten days after the 3-0, with Miami at home.
With Messi, Suarez and Berterame against a short-staffed back three, and Evander, Barlow and Denkey against a Miami side that conceded twice in New York on Saturday, I expect goals at both ends. Both teams to score with over 2.5 goals is the pick.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.
