Rain in Milwaukee turns IndyCar’s Sunday into a double bill

Red flag on lap 90

Rain stopped the Snap-On Makers and Fixers 250 at the Milwaukee Mile on Saturday, and it never let up. Race control threw the red flag on lap 90. The cars stayed in the pit lane, the system sat over Wisconsin, and officials eventually gave up on the day.

Pato O’Ward holds the lead at the stoppage. The Arrow McLaren driver is ahead of Felix Rosenqvist, with Alexander Rossi third.

Two races before lunch

The plan for Sunday is compressed. The 250 restarts at 9 a.m. ET with 160 laps left to run, and it will be called at 10:25 a.m. ET whatever the lap count says at that moment. The Snap-On Milwaukee Mile 250, the weekend’s second race, follows straight afterwards.

That leaves O’Ward defending a lead he built the previous afternoon, on a track surface nobody has run on since, with a hard deadline hanging over the finish.

This is the second postponement of the IndyCar season. The Music City Grand Prix outside Nashville lost a day to weather in July.
