Huddersfield Town have picked up seven points from a possible nine in their first three League One matches. The Terriers are only behind Blackpool on goal difference.
Oxford United arrive with four points from two games and one unusual twist: they have not played since 22 August. Their trip to Reading was postponed at the request of Thames Valley Police.
Kick-off is on Tuesday 1 September at 8.45pm French time, which is 7.45pm local time, at the John Smith’s Stadium. Sky Sports+ is showing the game.
Martin Drury, confirmed as Huddersfield boss after seven games in caretaker charge last season, has started his first proper spell with two wins and two draws from four competitive matches. The only setback was a penalty shootout exit to Preston North End in the EFL Cup.
Aaron Ramsey, meanwhile, saw his Oxford reign begin with a 2-0 defeat at Leyton Orient in the cup, before steadying the ship in the league. The 2-2 draw with MK Dons and the 2-1 win at Stevenage have given them a better base.
The big question here is tempo: Huddersfield are in rhythm, while the U’s are coming off 10 days without a competitive game. Rest can help a depleted squad, or it can break a team just as it starts to build something.
The transfer window also shuts on Tuesday in England, which leaves both managers with little certainty over their squads beyond this evening. It is a match to be played with the players available.
One more thing to note: Oxford have not played at Huddersfield since 2003. History brings little to the table here.

Huddersfield’s League One record so far can be summed up in three lines: 3-0 win over AFC Wimbledon, 1-1 draw at MK Dons, 2-1 win at Cambridge United. Seven points, no defeats.
Saturday’s trip to the Abbey Stadium showed plenty about this group. Trailing from the 80th minute, the Terriers turned it around with Joe Taylor striking twice late on.
That habit of scoring late changes the mood around this side. Huddersfield don’t fold when things get messy. That’s a useful trait this early in the season.
Martin Drury’s run goes back beyond this campaign, having already taken charge of the final seven matches of last season in caretaker mode. The continuity shows in the way the team is set up.
The schedule is also doing them a favour, with back-to-back home games against Oxford United and then Notts County. There is a real chance here to grab control at the top of the table.
The injury list is still crowded, though: Cameron Ashia, Sean Roughan, Herbie Kane and Marcus McGuane are all out. Jack Whatmough will miss a third straight game because of a groin issue.
Bali Mumba is serving the final game of a three-match ban after his red card against AFC Wimbledon in mid-August. He will be back next time out.
The main edge is simple: Huddersfield are at home, they have not lost in the league, and Joe Taylor has found his finish. The setup works in their favour.

Oxford United: four points and a doubtful keeper 
Oxford are into their first League One season since 2023-24 and have collected four points from two matches. For a club still being rebuilt, that is a decent enough return.
The 2-2 draw with MK Dons was rescued by Ciaron Brown in the 95th minute. Three days later came the 2-1 win at Stevenage, with Gaitlin O’Donkor and Cameron Brannagan on target.
Those are the only league figures available, with the Reading match postponed. Oxford head into this one after 10 days without a game.
The 2-0 defeat at Leyton Orient in the EFL Cup remains the only real blot on Aaron Ramsey’s record. Since that night, Oxford have not lost.
The biggest doubt is in goal: Jamie Cumming was forced off early at Stevenage and will need to be assessed. If he does not make it, Simon Eastwood would make his first EFL start since February 2024.
Three other players are ruled out: Ruben Roosken, Frankie Kent and Jeon Jin-Woo, all injured. The back line will therefore need reshaping around Michal Helik and Ciaron Brown.
There is also a statistical angle for Ramsey to consider: Oxford have not put together back-to-back league wins since April 2024. That would be a strong marker for a side still searching for rhythm.
The danger is obvious enough: a team short of match sharpness against one that is already up to speed. Those first 20 minutes could tell a story.
