Basketball in an NBA arena as Tyrese Haliburton hamstring news breaks

NBA: Haliburton’s comeback hits a new snag, this time a hamstring

A hamstring problem, and no timeline yet

Tyrese Haliburton has a left hamstring strain and will miss time, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Wednesday. The Pacers’ doctors and the point guard are still working out how long he will be out, so there is no return date to pass along.

It is a different injury from the right Achilles rupture that ended his night in Game 7 of the 2025 Finals against Oklahoma City. That tear cost him all of last season, and an Indiana team that played for the title a year earlier missed the playoffs without him.

A short return, now interrupted

Haliburton had only just made it back. He played his first competitive minutes in 16 months in an early October preseason game against Minnesota, then opened the regular season with 23 points and 12 assists in a 123-120 win at New Orleans on October 21.

Hamstring strains range from a few games to several weeks, which explains why the team is holding back a number. For a player coming off a major leg injury, a cautious approach is the safer bet than a rushed one. Andrew Nembhard, who had nine assists in that opener, is the obvious candidate to take on more playmaking while Haliburton is out.
