Seventeen goals, and the memory still lingers
The 2019-2020 season. Adrian Grbic scored 17 times in Ligue 2 for Clermont. Back then, no defence in the division wanted to see him coming.
Six years on, Guingamp want him. The Brittany club have tabled a concrete offer for the Austrian striker, according to Foot Mercato. The thinking is simple enough: bring in a proven finisher the division already knows, at a price the club can live with.
Grbic is 30 now. The profile has not changed. A powerful centre-forward, back to goal, built to finish chances.
Try it for $0.99.
Eleven goals in Switzerland say he is not finished
The Vienna-born forward is not on the scrapheap. He comes off a productive spell at FC Lucerne, with 11 goals in all competitions in the Swiss Super League.
His contract runs until June 2027. Lucerne are under no pressure to sell, though a 30-year-old with 18 months left on his deal does not usually command top dollar.
The Austria international has not shut the door on the Brittany project. He has not said yes either.
Nantes are watching, and that changes everything
Guingamp are not on their own. FC Nantes have made enquiries about the situation, again according to Foot Mercato. Nothing official yet, but enough to make the player think it over.
Grbic is weighing up his options. Ligue 1 with Nantes, Ligue 2 with a setup where he would be the focal point up front from day one, or nothing at all if he decides to stay in Switzerland.
The window shuts on Tuesday. The choice is his.
