Serie A: Bologna and Porto circle Watford’s Othmane Maamma

Two European clubs are circling the Morocco winger

Othmane Maamma has drawn interest from outside England. According to Foot Mercato, Bologna like the Moroccan winger and could make their move in the coming days. Porto are keeping tabs on the situation too.

On the Italian side, any deal hinges on one thing. Bologna are waiting to see what happens with Jonathan Rowe, who has been linked with Atalanta. If the Englishman goes, it clears both the squad spot and the budget needed to push ahead.

Player of the tournament, and the phone has not stopped since

Maamma made his name at the latest U20 World Cup, won by Morocco. He came away with the player of the tournament award, the standout individual prize on offer.

What followed was straightforward. His second half of the season at Watford, coupled with that youth-title run, opened the door to the senior national team. In May, he was included in Morocco’s pre-squad camp. He now has one cap.

Developed at Montpellier, he has built his reputation across two continents in less than two seasons.

Four goals in 25 games, and Watford still hold every card

The numbers in England are solid, if unspectacular. Last season, Maamma played 25 Championship matches, scoring four goals and adding one assist. A decent return for a young winger, nothing more.

Transfermarkt puts his value at 8 million euros and his contract runs until 2029. Watford have no need to sell, which leaves them in the driving seat on price. With four days left before the window shuts, it is on the suitors to speed up or walk away.
