Champions League: Gordon sees no gap between Barça, PSG, Real

Two losses, no doubts

Barcelona won every match until they ran into the two biggest tests of their season. On October 20, Paris Saint-Germain beat them 4-2 in the Champions League. Five days later, Real Madrid took the Clasico 2-1 at Camp Nou, with Kylian Mbappé scoring twice, the second a late winner.

Anthony Gordon refused to read much into either result. Speaking on Monday, the day before Barcelona host Aston Villa in the Champions League, the English winger said he does not believe either rival is above his team. He accepted responsibility for the defeats, since they were the two biggest games Barça had played so far, but stuck to his view.

Fatigue against Paris, wasted chances against Real

Gordon pointed to the calendar for the PSG game. Paris had rotated their entire side in the league that weekend, he said, while Barcelona had no such luxury and were tired. He called that a big advantage for the visitors.

On the Clasico he was even firmer. Gordon said Barcelona should have won, claiming his side had the possession, the best chances and were the better team, only slightly below their top level. Two unlucky goals conceded proved costly. Barcelona, the reigning Spanish champions, have not won the Champions League since 2015, a drought that keeps feeding questions about how they handle the biggest nights.
