Titans vs Sharks: Gold Coast still havent beaten Cronulla at home since 2017! 
The Titans havent beaten the Sharks at Cbus Super Stadium since 2017. Across the recent meetings, Cronulla have won 12 of the last 13.
Still, Sunday at 14:00 local time brings together two sides that are both wobbling. On paper the head-to-head looks one-sided. On the pitch, the picture is a lot messier.
Cronulla sit fifth and come in off two shock defeats that have cost them a spot in the top four. The latest came last weekend, a 24-20 loss to the Raiders.
The Titans are 15th and are playing for little more than pride and their fans now. Josh Hannay has put the last two heavy defeats down to accumulated fatigue.
The trip to Newcastle again started badly for the Titans, before a late first-half lift offered a glimmer of a comeback. By then, the damage was done.
One stat hangs over this game: Gold Coast have conceded 108 points in their last three matches. A finals-calibre side trying to get its season back on track rarely gets a softer target than this.
Cronulla can afford no more slip-ups if they want back into the top four before the playoffs. The Titans head into Sunday with nothing on the line beyond ending the year in better shape in front of their own crowd.

The Titans had shown signs of progress in mid-season before backing up with two performances well below par. Hannay has pointed to the physical toll on his squad as the reason for the slide.
The pattern repeated in Newcastle: poor start, late response, too big a gap to close. Sorting out that opening spell is now the main job for the run-in.
The staff have reshuffled the pack for this one. Arama Hau has been recalled to the back row after playing Queensland Cup for Ipswich last weekend.
Cooper Bai starts at lock, which pushes Chris Randall to the bench. Hooker Luke Sommerton is also brought into the rotation, replacing Sam Verrills.
Josh Patston, who suffered a head knock against the Knights, wont play on Sunday. The forward pack has been reworked around Moeaki Fotuaika and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui.
There is also an individual milestone in sight: winger Phillip Sami is just one try away from the club try-scoring record, held by Anthony Don. Motivation wont be in short supply at home.
Keeping Keano Kini at fullback and Jayden Campbell at halfback gives the backline a familiar look. But the first half hour has to look nothing like the last three outings.
The Fotuaika-Fa’asuamaleaui pairing remains the best source of go-forward for the hosts. How they match up with Cronulla’s big men will shape the game.

Sharks: a reshaped halves pair to save the top four 
Cronulla have lost their last two matches, both as favourites, and have let their top-four spot slip away. There are still three rounds left to win it back.
The 24-20 defeat to the Raiders was made worse by the early exit of Braydon Trindall, who had been in strong form in recent weeks. The halfback is dealing with a shoulder dislocation.
Niwhai Puru steps into the halves alongside Nicho Hynes. The 24-year-old had already played three games at halfback earlier this season while Hynes was out with a calf issue.
Up front, the return of Addin Fonua-Blake from suspension is a major boost in the collision. Oregon Kaufusi drops to the bench to make room for him in the starting side.
Out wide, Ronaldo Mulitalo has a huge record against this opponent: seven tries in his last six games against the Titans. He remains the Sharks’ most reliable strike weapon in this matchup.
Hynes will have to shoulder a bigger workload with a less experienced partner beside him. That is the main question mark for a side coming off two poor results.
