An election already under fire
Giovanni Malago’s election as president of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) last June could be overturned. A legal challenge is questioning its validity: at the time of the vote, Malago may not yet have been registered as a federation member, having only just stepped down as head of CONI, the Italian Olympic committee.
According to La Repubblica, several Serie A clubs are already planning for what comes next. Inter, Juventus, Roma and Atalanta are among the sides said to be doubting how long Malago’s grip on the job can really last.

Galliani, the man for the handover
The name doing the rounds to step in is Adriano Galliani. At 82, the former long-time AC Milan and Monza chief is being tipped to take charge on a two-year interim basis before fresh elections. A Forza Italia senator, Galliani spent four decades alongside Silvio Berlusconi, in football and in politics.
A special commissioner could be appointed in mid-October, once the international break is over. Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis came out in support of Malago: “He’s the only one who can get Italian football back on track, but some people want to bring him down because they want his job.” He also pointed the finger at government ministers for making an already messy situation even harder to sort out.
