Eleven minutes in, the Galaxy had their penalty
Kyogo Furuhashi burst clear of Mamadou Fofana at midfield and set off toward Matt Turner. William Sands slid in from behind and took him down. Yellow card, penalty, and Marco Reus rolled it straight down the middle while Turner dived right.
Reus built the second himself in the 33rd minute. He carried the ball from inside his own half, drew defenders toward him as he approached the box, then slipped a pass to Hirving Lozano on the overlap. Lozano crossed, Robert Taylor took one touch to shift a defender and bent the finish inside the far post.
Two-nil after 33 minutes in Carson. The Galaxy did not score again.

Marcinkowski kept the lead alive
New England produced the rest of the football. Dor Turgeman clipped the crossbar off JT Marcinkowski’s fingertips in the 17th minute. Carles Gil forced a diving save in the 41st. After the break the Revolution pinned Los Angeles back: Marcinkowski swatted away Jack Harrison’s shot in the 47th, then denied Turgeman from the rebound while on his knees.
Alhassan Yusuf hit the post in the 66th. Turgeman dragged another effort wide in the 79th. Marcinkowski finished with seven saves against a single save for Turner at the other end, a split that tells the story of the second half better than the scoreline does.
Gil finally beat him from the spot in the fifth minute of stoppage time after Harbor Miller fouled Luca Langoni. Too late to change anything.
Different seasons, same afternoon
The Galaxy climb to 29 points from a 7-9-8 record and snap a two-match winless run, though the reigning champions of two seasons ago remain well outside the Western Conference places that matter. Reus and Lozano, the two designated players who cost the club its summer budget, combined for both goals, which is roughly what the investment was for.
New England stay on 37 points at 11-8-4 and can point to the shot count as evidence they deserved more. Turgeman alone had three clear looks. Their Eastern Conference position holds, but the margin for these afternoons is shrinking as the regular season runs down.
