Ice hockey action, Anaheim Ducks beat Philadelphia Flyers

NHL: Ducks end five-game skid with a 5-4 win over Flyers

A back-and-forth game

The Anaheim Ducks lost five in a row, then won a messy one. They beat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-4 on Saturday, a game that was tied twice and flipped the lead three times before the third period settled it.

Philadelphia started faster. Matvei Michkov scored on a 5-on-3 after two Anaheim penalties, and Porter Martone made it 2-0 on a power play with a pass from Travis Sanheim. The Ducks answered in the second: Leo Carlsson scored after Cutter Gauthier stole the puck, A.J. Greer tied it less than five minutes later, and Tyson Foerster put the Flyers ahead again with a short-handed goal. Judd Caulfield tied it at 3-3 a little over a minute after that.

Luneau decides the third

Tristan Luneau scored the go-ahead goal in the third, his first of the season, and finished with a goal and two assists. Beckett Sennecke then tipped in a Carlsson feed on the power play for 5-3. Michkov got one back about a minute later, his second of the night and his eighth of the year, but a late Philadelphia power play over the final 40.7 seconds produced little.

Lukas Dostal made 28 saves for Anaheim and Joseph Woll stopped 21 for the Flyers.

Carlsson against his old suitors

Carlsson had a goal and an assist against the team that gave him a five-year, $90 million offer sheet over the summer. Anaheim matched it, which made the 21-year-old the highest-paid player in the league. Trevor Zegras, facing his former club, added two assists.

Philadelphia had won three straight after losing its first nine.
