DR Congo vs Uzbekistan : the Leopards have no room for slip-ups
In Atlanta, there will be no need for any complicated maths. DR Congo have to win if they want to keep this World Cup run alive. Anything else would bring the curtain down on the Congolese campaign, even if the Leopards can still sneak into the mix for one of the best third-place spots.
Uzbekistan, by contrast, arrive in a very different mood. Heavy defeats to Colombia and then Portugal have all but buried the White Wolves’ hopes on the global stage. This is now about salvaging some pride and leaving the tournament with a bit more respect.
DR Congo have a chance to seize
The table does not tell the full story of the Congolese tournament. Against Portugal, they pushed one of the group favourites hard before earning a draw that felt like a proper lift. A few days later, against Colombia, they stayed in the game until the final quarter of an hour before finally cracking to a single goal. Those two matches showed a disciplined side, but one that has sometimes been too cautious for its own good.
With only victory good enough, Sebastien Desabre could take a different approach and demand more initiative from his players. Yoane Wissa remains the main threat up front for the Leopards. His work off the ball and his runs in behind will be vital, while Cedric Bakambu will need to bring his experience in the final third. The task is straightforward enough: turn pressure into goals, something they have too often failed to do in this tournament.
Uzbekistan want to save face
Making a World Cup debut against Colombia and Portugal was never going to be kind. Uzbekistan found that out the hard way, shipping eight goals in their first two outings. Not everything has been bleak, though. Abbosbek Fayzullaev has shown real technical quality, while Eldor Shomurodov continues to lead the line for this side.
The bigger issue is collective. This team struggles to keep the ball and spends far too much time pinned back. Fabio Cannavaro will want a response from his players, if only so they can finish this first appearance with a bit more control. Even with nothing much at stake, nobody wants a third straight defeat.

World Cup prediction : DR Congo vs Uzbekistan
DR Congo to win
This feels like a final turn in the road for the Leopards. So far in the tournament, they have looked more solid than their one-point return suggests, especially against two opponents stronger than Uzbekistan. The Congolese know they will have to take more risks than usual, but they are up against a side that still looks short on ideas at this level and has struggled at the back in every game. With Wissa, Bakambu and Bongonda, DR Congo have enough pace and punch to make things happen.
Uzbekistan will surely play with freedom, which can make them dangerous in a few transitions. Over the 90 minutes, though, the Leopards look better equipped to set the tempo and claim the win they need to keep their last-16 hopes alive.

First, a word on our predictions
- What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We share an opinion, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a freak goal from nowhere… and the whole script changes.
- Let’s be clear: there is no risk-free bet. Even when something looks obvious, it really is not. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, you will at some point.
- The smart move is to stay sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Do not touch money you need for living expenses. And above all: do not chase losses, because that rarely ends well.
- A bet should stay a bit of fun, not a job or a source of income. If you feel it is taking over your daily life, making you irritated or putting you under pressure, take a break. And if needed, speak to a specialist support group. That is what they are there for.
- In the end, responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Essential reminder: betting is forbidden to minors and must follow the law in your country. Gambling can spiral quickly (money losses, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us
Our predictions are not a contract. They have no legal force. In plain English: you cannot use them to demand anything if a bet does not come off.
Information can change
A prediction is always based on what we know when it is written. But by the time you read it, a team sheet can change, a player can pick up an injury, the weather can turn… and the analysis can quickly be out of date. We cannot be held responsible for that.
Your role
Before you bet, check that gambling is legal where you live. If it is not, that is your responsibility, not ours.
