Dolphins vs Melbourne Storm – Free NRL Prediction and Preview – May 1, 2026

It is off to Brisbane for a Friday night clash that has plenty of people leaning in when they look at the odds. On paper, seeing Melbourne in this spot still feels strange. But form does not care about reputations: six straight losses, a hammering on Anzac Day, and a badge that no longer buys anyone much protection.

The Dolphins, meanwhile, have not exactly been rolling teams over. Still, they have enough about them to think they can cause a problem. That mix of doubt and opportunity is what makes this one hard to call… and potentially a very lively watch.

The Dolphins still lack control Dolphins — Wikipedia

The narrow defeat to the Warriors, 20-18, left a bitter taste. There was clearly a chance to take that game.

The Dolphins were in it, showed up when it mattered, but once again they were missing that extra layer of control needed to finish the job. Even late on, with a chance to force golden point, they walked away with nothing.

That is the issue right now. There is talent there, there are decent passages, and there are players who can swing a game… but there are too many flat spots and too much reliance on momentum.

Farnworth keeps punching holes on his edge, Isaako remains a constant threat, and Katoa adds a bit of invention… but over 80 minutes, the consistency still is not there.

Against a Storm side in crisis, that might be enough. But giving Melbourne a live chance, even in this state, is still a dangerous game.

Melbourne are down… but still dangerous Storm logo

The 48-6 collapse against South Sydney felt like a real breaking point.

That was not just a loss. It was a warning light flashing red. A team outplayed, outworked, and miles away from the standards that built its identity over so many years.

Six defeats on the bounce, uncharacteristic errors, a defence that is leaking badly… it is adding up fast. Even with the injury situation in mind, this does not look anything like a Bellamy Storm side.

But that is exactly why this fixture matters.

Because for all the noise, the quality is still there. Grant is still one of the best in his position, Faalogo can create something out of nothing, and the pack still has enough physicality to stand toe to toe with most teams.

The real question is not whether Melbourne are at their peak. They are nowhere near it. The question is whether they have become a side you can safely write off.

Historically, that is a pretty bad bet.

A game that can swing either way

On one side, a team that looks completely lost. On the other, a group with ability but no rhythm.

That sort of setup often produces open, messy games where the script changes in a matter of minutes.

The Dolphins can score. Melbourne badly need a response. And neither defence is offering much comfort right now.

If the pace gets loose, this could turn into a proper points fest.

NRL Prediction Dolphins vs Storm

A hot angle pulled straight from the 20+ team and player trends we have published for this week!

_________

First, a word on our predictions

  • What we publish on mathodds are opinions, nothing more. We are offering a view, a read on the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal from nowhere… and the whole script changes.
  • Let us be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when something looks obvious, it really is not. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, you will lose at some point.
  • The smart move is to keep it sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Do not touch money you need to live on. And above all: do not chase losses, because that usually ends badly.
  • A bet should stay a bit of fun, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking over your day, winds you up, or puts you under pressure, take a break. And if needed, speak to a specialist organisation. That is what they are there for.
  • At the end of the day, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never go away, even with the best analysis in the world.
  • Important reminder: betting is illegal for minors and must follow the law in your country. Gambling can spiral quickly (money problems, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.

No commitment from us

Our predictions are not a contract. They carry no legal weight. In plain English: you cannot use them to claim anything if a bet loses.

Information changes fast

A prediction always depends on what is known when it is written. But in the meantime, a team sheet changes (like the Dolphins’ one, for example), a player gets hurt, the weather turns… and the analysis can quickly go stale. We cannot be held responsible for that.

Your role

Before you bet, make sure wagering is legal where you live. If it is not, that is your responsibility, not ours.

Responsible gambling first

It is worth saying again: bet in moderation. If you struggle to stay in control, do not wait to get help. We cannot be responsible for compulsive or excessive use of the information published on the site.

Legal age

mathodds content is for adults only. By using this site, you confirm that you are old enough under the law to place bets.
