A vote with a deadline
Philippe Diallo thinks Arsène Wenger could take on Gianni Infantino. The president of the French football federation told Ouest-France that the former Arsenal manager “obviously ticks a lot of boxes” as a candidate for the FIFA presidency. Wenger has not declared anything.
The vote is set for 18 March 2027 in Rabat, Morocco. Candidacies must be filed by 18 November, and Diallo expects UEFA to settle on a European name before then. He says the confederation has approached several potential candidates and drawn up a profile. Time is short, he admitted.

Wenger’s distance from Infantino
Diallo called Wenger’s legitimacy in the game “incontestable” and pointed to his international standing. He also made clear that running is a personal decision, since a campaign for the job is a heavy commitment.
Wenger knows FIFA from the inside as its chief of global football development. According to RMC Sport, he distanced himself slightly from Infantino in August over the president’s plan to commercialise the World Cup. Wenger has said he learned about that project from the press.
Only two names have come forward so far. Infantino is the incumbent and is seeking re-election. Former Swiss defender Ramon Vega, who played for Tottenham and Celtic, declared on 7 October.
