Two innings, five runs, and Chase Burns was finished
Burns never got a chance to settle.
Five pitches into the game, Drew Gilbert ripped a double. Two pitches after that, Rafael Devers punched a single through. Jung Hoo Lee brought in the first run, Turner Hill doubled to score Devers, and San Francisco led 2-0 before the crowd had settled into their seats.
The second inning ended any doubt. Christian Koss singled, Gilbert doubled again, and Devers put his 27th homer of the year over the wall. 5-0. Nothing moved after that. The Giants ran over Cincinnati overnight Monday into Tuesday at Oracle Park, opening a long stretch at home.

Six and a third innings of relief, three hits
Their starter did not reach the third. Carson Whisenhunt felt something in his left forearm while striking out Sal Stewart, the trainer came out, and that was his night. Two hits in two and two-thirds.
That is where San Francisco could have come apart. It did not.
Jason Foley closed out the third. Reiver Sanmartin, Ryan Walker, Carson Seymour and Dylan Smith handled the rest, giving up three hits between them. Eleven strikeouts on the night, three of those from Whisenhunt before he walked off. Tenth shutout of the season for the franchise.
Four straight losses, gone
The Giants had lost four in a row heading into this. Not any more.
Burns will want to forget it. Three and two-thirds innings, five runs, nine hits, matching his season worst in both columns. He falls to 14-3.
Cincinnati managed five hits and not one of them went for extra bases, with Tyler Stephenson accounting for two. San Francisco had ten. Sam Moll, Julian Garcia and Emilio Pagan gave the Reds four and a third scoreless innings out of the pen, long after it mattered. Third defeat in four games, and a nine-game road trip is starting to show.
