Deportivo La Coruna vs Valencia: three points, two teams, eight halves 
Deportivo La Coruna have two points, Valencia one. Neither side has won in La Liga this season.
The Abanca-Riazor Stadium hosts the game on Sunday, 30 August at 19:30, French time. It is the third round of the Spanish league.
The Galician club sit 11th, with Los Che down in 15th. The gap is small. The pressure at both clubs is not.
Deportivo are back in the top flight this summer after eight years away, having finished second in Segunda Division. They even spent time in the third tier in between.
Valencia, meanwhile, have been stuck in mid-table for several seasons, finishing ninth with 49 points last time out. Thirteen wins, 10 draws and 15 defeats sums up a side that has been anything but consistent.
A first away trip as a test for Corberan’s Valencia
Sunday brings the season’s first road trip for Carlos Corberan’s side.
It is a big test away from home for Los Che, who limped through last season on their travels, collecting just 19 points away from Mestalla with a modest return of five wins.
A head-to-head record firmly tilted towards the visitors
If Valencia are to get off the mark away from home, they can lean on a clear psychological edge. The historic balance of power is well in their favour, with Valencia winning both meetings in 2017-2018 by the same 2-1 scoreline.
Recent form backs that up: over the last five meetings between these sides, Valencia have three wins and two draws, leaving Deportivo empty-handed.
Two teams who struggle to finish chances, a rivalry that has usually been tight: this looks more likely to be cagey than open.
Deportivo La Coruna: two leads wasted in two games 
Deportivo have led in both of their first two matches and only came away with two points. Same story, twice over.
Against Elche, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang broke the deadlock in the 21st minute before Marc Aguado levelled on 76 minutes. The Galician club missed their first win since returning to the top flight.
The trip to Malaga produced exactly the same pattern, with another Aubameyang goal on 21 minutes and Chupe equalising on 34. Two leads, two draws.
Aubameyang has carried Deportivo’s attack on his own since the restart. The Gabon striker, signed from Marseille in July 2026, has scored both of the team’s goals.
The transfer market also brought in another experienced name in Adama Traore, who arrived on a free transfer at the end of August 2026. The Spanish winger should add pace and drive out wide.
Antonio Hidalgo will be without Noe, who is sidelined by a muscle injury. Deportivo’s midfield will be built around Altimira, Soriano and Amatucci.
Riazor has not yet seen its team win this season, despite a fairly controlled first home game against Elche. Turning chances into goals remains the glaring issue.
Leading twice and failing to close it out says more about game management than chance creation. That is exactly the sort of weakness a disciplined side like Valencia can exploit.

Valencia have taken just one point from their opening two matches. Both games, though, were at Mestalla.
The 0-0 draw with Celta Vigo on opening night did nothing to solve the attacking problem. Then came a home defeat to Real Betis, which dragged the start of the campaign down even further.
Corberan heads into his first away game of the season without a goal in league play. The attack is the number one concern.
Last season’s away record does little to inspire confidence: 19 points on the road, from five wins, four draws and 10 defeats. Los Che are not exactly fearless travellers.
The treatment room has filled up again ahead of this trip to Galicia. Sergi Canos, Diego Lopez, Justin De Haas and Jose Copete are all out, with knee, ankle and meniscus issues.
Dimitri Foulquier remains a doubt and is on a tailored recovery plan. Alberto Mari has left the club after securing a free transfer, having fallen out of the staff’s plans.
Stole Dimitrievski keeps the gloves, with Cesar Tarrega and Mouctar Diakhaby expected to form the centre-back pairing. Defensive solidity remains the base of Corberan’s project.
A thin attacking squad and an experienced defence point Valencia towards control rather than chaos. The 0-0 with Celta gives a fair idea of the plan.
Valencia’s midfield will rely on Pepelu, Ugrinic and Guerra to crowd the centre of the pitch. Build-up from deep is slow, which cuts down the number of quick breaks they can spring.
Up front, Umar and Sato may have to make do with scraps. Valencia’s attacking output depends heavily on winning the ball high up the pitch, which is easier said than done on the road.
