Darnell Wright Chicago Bears right tackle record contract extension

NFL: Darnell Wright secures record deal from the Bears

Chicago protects its investment on the right edge

The Bears agreed on Tuesday to a four-year extension with right tackle Darnell Wright, a contract reported at $116 million that includes $93 million guaranteed. That guarantee figure is the largest ever handed to an offensive lineman, according to ESPN and Spotrac.

Wright’s $29 million average annual value trails only the $30.1 million Laremy Tunsil secured from Washington in March. Two right tackles now sit at the very top of the tackle market, a shift from an era when the blindside left side drew all the money.

A first-round pick who never left the field

Selected 10th overall in 2023, Wright was the first draft choice made by general manager Ryan Poles. He has started all 49 games he has appeared in, including every snap of his rookie year, and earned second-team All-Pro honors in 2025.

Chicago had already picked up his fifth-year option in April, worth $19.07 million and running through 2027, so the extension was not about control. It was about permanence. The Bears went 11-6 last season, their best record since 2018 before a divisional-round overtime loss to the Rams, and they want the line that made it possible to stay together.
