Chicago locks down its wall
$93 million guaranteed for a right tackle. Chicago did not flinch.
The Bears and Darnell Wright agreed on a four-year extension Tuesday. Full figures stayed under wraps, but several reports peg it as a record at the position, roughly $93 million guaranteed.
Wright, taken 10th overall in the 2023 draft, is now set to man the right edge of the line for years.
Try it for $0.99.
Betting on protection
Keep the quarterback upright. That is the whole idea. Chicago is pouring money into its front, and into a player whose best football probably hasn’t happened yet.
Read it however you like, but it looks like a statement. The Bears want to build around the offense rather than keep patching it, and paying premium rates for a tackle is how you say so.
What comes next
Camp rolls on. Wright has his money, Chicago has its wall, and now the awkward part starts: turning all that cash into wins.
