Three touchdowns in one afternoon
Eighteen carries. A hundred and twenty-four yards. Three touchdowns. D’Andre Swift picked the right week to produce the best scoring day of his career, and the league made it official this morning by naming him NFC offensive player of the week.
Chicago’s 59-37 win over Carolina has already done the rounds. Swift’s share of it is the part that lands in his own record book. He had never scored three times in a single game before. He also caught a pass for 10 yards, which nobody is going to bring up again.

A second award, three years apart
This is the second offensive player of the week award of Swift’s career. The first arrived in 2023, in a Philadelphia shirt, during the single season he spent there. Two moves and three years later, the honour has found him again in Chicago.
The number that flatters him is 124 yards on 18 carries, just under seven a touch. The number that matters more to the Bears is three, because red zone conversion has been the thing separating their good halves from their bad ones. Fifty-nine points is not a total anyone plans for twice. A back who finishes drives is easier to build around.
Minnesota next
Chicago host the Vikings on Sunday, a fixture that historically produces nothing like 59 points for either side. Swift will not need three touchdowns to be useful there. One, and the ball staying in his hands late, would do plenty.
