Nineteen scoreless innings on the road, and still no win to show for it
Two hits. One walk. Eight strikeouts across seven shutout innings in Anaheim, and Cristopher Sanchez left the mound with nothing next to his name. The Philadelphia left-hander was chasing a 17th win that would have put him alone at the top of Major League Baseball. The bullpen had other ideas about when this game would end.
What he did get was company. Sanchez has now put together three straight road starts of at least six scoreless innings. Two Phillies had managed that before him, Steve Carlton in 1981 and Cliff Lee in 2011. His away shutout run sits at 19 innings.
He also pushed past 202 strikeouts, a second consecutive season north of 200.

Three runs in the 10th, and a replay that stung
Philadelphia opened the scoring in the second, Alec Bohm coming home on Brandon Marsh’s single to centre. The Angels waited until the eighth. Zach Neto worked Jonathan Bowlan to a 12th pitch and then sent it 407 feet for his 23rd homer of the year.
The Phillies had already left one on the table. Trea Turner was thrown out stealing third, and Bryce Harper went for home. Safe, said the umpire. Out, said the replay, after a long look.
The 10th settled it. Kyle Schwarber looped a double into the gap to bring in J.T. Realmuto, then Turner drove a two-run single to right. Four to two. Jhoan Duran took the win after two innings of relief.
Six straight for the Angels, and it does not look like stopping
Philadelphia have won 12 of 14. Anaheim have lost six in a row and managed four hits all night. Trevor Martin, claimed off waivers from Tampa Bay on 15 August, made his first appearance for the club and gave up three runs across three innings.
