Costa Rica vs Haiti: must-win for the hosts, a point for history for the visitors
Costa Rica host Haiti at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa on the final matchday of the CONCACAF Nations League group phase. Kick-off is at 02:00 Paris time on Monday 5 October, which is Sunday evening in San Jose.
The group situation is easy to follow. Haiti have won all three of their games and sit three points above Costa Rica, who are still alive after a 3-0 win in Nicaragua.
Goal difference makes the hosts’ task even harder. Haiti are on +6 while Costa Rica are on 0, so Los Ticos need a win, and probably a clear one, to have any hope of advancing.
Haiti, on the other hand, are on the edge of history. A point, or even avoiding a heavy defeat, would send them into the Nations League knockout stage for the first time.
The recent head-to-head favours the visitors. Haiti beat Costa Rica 2-0 on matchday two and, according to Sports Mole, are unbeaten in six meetings with them.
Costa Rica can lean on their home record against this opponent. They have not lost to Haiti on home soil this century, the last such win coming in a 2015 World Cup qualifier.
The result is a game where one side must attack and the other can afford to wait. That balance shapes every part of our prediction.
SportyTrader’s numbers give Haiti a slight edge, with odds around 2.40 against 3.10 for Costa Rica and around 3.55 for the draw. The market clearly respects the visitors’ form.
Costa Rica’s campaign began with a remarkable collapse against Curacao, from 3-0 up to a 4-3 defeat. That match explains why they now need a result here rather than earlier in the group.
The game is listed for Sunday 4 October in Costa Rica, which becomes Monday morning in Paris. European readers should keep that time difference in mind before kick-off.
Costa Rica Analysis
Costa Rica’s campaign started badly. They were 3-0 up against Curacao on matchday one and still lost 4-3, then went down 2-0 in Haiti a few days later.
The reaction came under interim coach Bryan Ruiz. The 3-0 win in Nicaragua was Costa Rica’s first victory of 2026 and ended a five-match losing run.
All three goals in that game came after half-time, from Orlando Sinclair, Carlos Mora and Kenyel Michel. It showed an attack capable of pushing late when the game opens up.
Keylor Navas started in goal and kept a clean sheet at 39. His experience will be important if Costa Rica commit numbers forward and leave space behind.
The worry is the Saprissa itself in this competition. Costa Rica have yet to win a Nations League match at the venue, including that 4-3 defeat to Curacao.
The defence also remains fragile. Six goals conceded in the first two games show what can happen when this team loses its shape.
Costa Rica have lost their final group game in this competition only once before, against Panama in March 2023. History suggests they tend to respond when their backs are against the wall.
Ruiz’s first match in charge also brought a clean sheet. Keeping that defensive discipline while chasing goals is the real challenge on Sunday night.

Haiti Analysis
David Badia’s Haiti have been the story of the group. They beat Trinidad and Tobago 3-2, Costa Rica 2-0 and the Dominican Republic 4-1.
That attacking output is a big change from the summer. After failing to score in their first two World Cup group games, Haiti have netted 11 goals in their last four competitive fixtures.
Wilson Isidor leads the line. He scored twice against the Dominican Republic, with Yassin Fortune and Louicius Deedson also on target.
Haiti could also become the first Caribbean side to finish the League A group phase with a perfect record. That target gives them a reason to play for the win rather than settle for a draw.
Their away record in the competition is strong. Haiti have lost only once on the road in the Nations League, against Curacao back in 2019.
Alexandre Pierre is set to start in goal for a third match running. Behind a midfield featuring Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, Haiti are well organised to hit Costa Rica on the counter.
Haiti can extend their unbeaten run against Costa Rica to seven matches. They have not beaten Los Ticos on Central American soil since 1950, a record they will be keen to rewrite.
Lovend’s Delinois earned his first senior cap in this window, a sign Badia is willing to widen his squad. Even so, the core that won the first three games should start again.
Probable lineup Costa Rica: Navas; Sosa, Mitchell, Calvo, Araya; Murillo, Wilson; Michel, Mendez, Mora; Sinclair
Probable lineup Haiti: Pierre; Arcus, Sainte, Delcroix, Experience; Deedson, Jean Jacques, Bellegarde, Picault; Pierrot, Isidor

Our prediction: Both teams to score
Costa Rica have to attack from the first minute, and their attack has just produced three goals in Nicaragua. Haiti, with 11 goals in four competitive games, are built to punish the spaces that kind of approach leaves open.
Sports Mole predicts a 2-1 win for Haiti, and Sportskeeda also highlights both teams scoring as a sound angle. The market sees Haiti as slight favourites, priced around 2.40 by SportyTrader against roughly 3.10 for Costa Rica.
Rather than pick a winner in such an open contest, we go with both teams to score. The game script, a desperate home side against a dangerous counter-attacking visitor, points clearly towards goals at both ends.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal — and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses — that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation — that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.
