Columbus Blue Jackets vs Florida Panthers: 7-3 at Nationwide Arena in October, and a Columbus team scoring 2.71 a game
Florida won 7-3 at Nationwide Arena in mid-October, with Sam Reinhart the Panthers’ top performer and Cam Talbot in goal for Columbus. The teams meet in the same building on Tuesday 10 November, puck drop 7:30pm ET.
Columbus has scored 38 goals in 14 games, 2.71 a game, one of the lowest totals in the Eastern Conference. The Blue Jackets are 7-7-0, sixth in the Metropolitan, and the split between their home and road records is wide: 6-3-0 at Nationwide Arena, 1-4-0 away from it.
They’ve won their last two, both at home. Columbus beat Colorado 7-2 and then Dallas 2-1 in a shootout on Thursday, when Zach Werenski tied the game with 3:14 left for his first goal of the season and Valeri Nichushkin and Kent Johnson scored in the shootout.
Florida is 9-5-2 and fifth in the Atlantic on 20 points, but the form is better than the position. The Panthers are 7-3-0 in their last ten and beat Chicago 5-3 on Wednesday, with Sandis Vilmanis scoring twice and assisting twice in his 34th NHL game.
The scheduling favours Columbus. Florida plays at Washington on Saturday and at Boston on Sunday before travelling to Ohio, while the Blue Jackets play in Buffalo on Friday and then have three days off. We’re working from the standings as they were on Friday morning.
Columbus Blue Jackets: 6-3-0 at home, and Talbot 5-2 in his starts
Columbus has allowed 42 goals and scored 38, a -4 difference. Seven of its 14 games have been decided by one goal or in extra time, and the Blue Jackets have won all five that went beyond regulation.
The goaltending split tells the story of the season. Talbot is 5-2 in his seven starts, and one of the two defeats was that 7-3 game against Florida. Greaves is 2-5, with his last two starts both defeats, 3-2 in Carolina and 3-1 in Dallas.
Talbot made 27 saves against Dallas on Thursday. In the second period he spun around in the crease to catch an Esa Lindell shot at the right post, and later stopped Jason Robertson on a breakaway with his left pad, which kept the game scoreless into the third.
The production is coming from a small group. Johnson has points in six straight games, three goals and six assists, and Werenski has seven points in a five-game streak. Werenski said after Thursday’s game that not scoring had been eating at him.
There are still turnovers in the defensive zone. Dallas scored at 6:27 of the third period after Ivan Provorov lost the puck to Wyatt Johnston, and Mikko Rantanen finished the rebound. Columbus has won two straight but trailed in the third period of the second one.

Florida Panthers: 7-3-0 in the last ten, with Reinhart and Verhaeghe on five-game streaks
Florida has scored 52 goals and allowed 47. The Panthers are 5-3-2 on the road, where they’ve played ten of their 16 games, and they’ve won four of their last five.
The line of Carter Verhaeghe, Reinhart and Vilmanis combined for nine points against Chicago, four goals and five assists. Coach Paul Maurice said they were his first line that night and praised them for being responsible at both ends rather than cheating for offense.
Reinhart’s empty-net goal was his 198th for the Panthers, level with Jonathan Huberdeau for second in franchise history behind Aleksander Barkov’s 286. He has eight points in a five-game point streak, and Verhaeghe has seven in five.
The depth goes beyond that line. Seth Jones scored against his former team, and Brady Tkachuk set up Verhaeghe’s power-play goal from a pass by his brother Matthew. Markstrom made 17 saves in that game, and he and Schmid have shared the starts.
Niko Mikkola is the health question. The defenseman took a Connor Bedard shot off his right leg in the third period and left midway through it, and Maurice said he was sore but expected to be fine. Florida also has two road games to play before Tuesday.

Free NHL Prediction: Columbus Blue Jackets vs Florida Panthers
Our prediction: Florida Panthers to win (overtime included)
We’re backing Florida. The Panthers are 7-3-0 in their last ten, they’ve scored seven at Nationwide Arena already this season, and Columbus averages 2.71 goals a game. Florida’s top line produced nine points on Wednesday, and Columbus has needed one-goal games and shootouts to stay at .500.
Columbus has real points in its favour: a 6-3-0 home record, three days of rest against Florida’s one, and a goaltender in Talbot who is 5-2. The Blue Jackets are also 5-0 when games go past 60 minutes, so a tight game late would suit them more than Florida.
The quality gap still points one way. Florida has more scoring through the lineup, Reinhart and Verhaeghe are both on streaks, and Columbus’s two most productive players right now, Johnson and Werenski, have combined for four goals in their current streaks. Vilmanis, in only his 34th NHL game, had four points on Wednesday.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes
A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
