Colorado Rapids vs San Diego FC : two teams in need of a reset 
The World Cup break could hardly have come at a better time for Colorado. The Rapids have completely lost their way in recent weeks, piling up poor results until they dropped out of the Western Conference top 10. Back in front of their own fans, they will hope to get going again on firmer ground.
San Diego have not exactly had a smooth first half to the season either. The California club has been inconsistent, but there were signs of more stability before the pause. This trip to Colorado is a chance to back that up and put some daylight between themselves and a direct rival.
Colorado are still searching for the right formula 
For several weeks, the Rapids had looked capable of mixing it with the front-runners in the conference. Then it all fell apart in a flash. The defeats kept coming, confidence drained away and every mistake seemed to sting harder than the last.
The back line remains Matt Wells’ biggest concern. Between suspensions, injuries and red cards, the coach has rarely been able to name the same defence twice. Against Dallas, the two penalties they gave away before the break summed up the nerves running through this side.
Rafael Navarro remains their main hope. With eight goals this season, the Brazilian striker continues to carry a heavy share of the attacking load. But he is often left too isolated in the final third, which badly limits Colorado once the game gets stretched.
San Diego want to keep the momentum going 
Even though their last outing ended in defeat to Vancouver, San Diego had shown encouraging signs before the break. The team had snapped a long winless run and seemed to be finding a bit of belief again, especially going forward.
Marcus Ingvartsen is still the man drawing the most attention. With 11 league goals, he is among MLS’ most efficient strikers this season. Around him, Anders Dreyer and Emmanuel Pellegrino bring movement and help San Diego create openings on a regular basis.
The real test comes away from home. The Californians have not won on the road since March and will need to be much sharper defensively. Even so, they are up against a Colorado side that looks shot of confidence, which gives them a decent chance of leaving with something.

Both teams return with questions hanging over them, but Colorado look like the side with more to sort out. The Rapids are on a miserable run, both in terms of performances and results, and the long list of absentees is hardly helping them find any stability.
San Diego are not exactly bomb-proof either, especially away from home. Still, the Californian side showed more cohesion before the break and have several players who can turn a match with one moment, starting with Marcus Ingvartsen and Anders Dreyer.
Given Colorado’s recent form and the problems they have been dealing with for weeks, San Diego avoiding defeat looks like the most likely outcome. The visitors have enough about them to leave with at least a point.
