Colombia vs Ghana : a game that could turn awkward fast
Colombia arrive in Kansas City wearing the favourite tag, but these games are never settled on paper. The Cafeteros came through their group unbeaten, ahead of Portugal, and looked like a side that is hard to shift. Ghana had to grind its way through. Less control, less of the ball, but enough steel to survive a strong group.
For the South Americans, this is a big opening. For the Black Stars, it is almost ideal: nobody expects them to take the initiative, and that is often when they become most dangerous.
Colombia keep moving with purpose
Colombia’s run has been tidy. A comfortable win over Uzbekistan, a tighter victory against DR Congo, then a solid draw with Portugal to finish top of Group K. Nothing flashy, but plenty of control.
Nestor Lorenzo can lean on a unit that has given little away since the start of the tournament, with only one goal conceded against Uzbekistan. Daniel Munoz has also added a real threat from wide areas, with two goals already to his name. Up front, Luis Diaz is still the man who can blow a game open with one burst, while James Rodriguez keeps that final pass in his locker, the kind that can unlock a stubborn defence.
Colombia know they have the tools. The danger is getting dragged into a slow, scrappy match where Ghana can keep the tension alive.
Ghana likes this sort of setup
The Black Stars have not had a smooth ride. They beat Panama, held England, then came up short against Croatia. Four points were enough to go through, but the bigger story is this: this team knows how to suffer without falling apart.
Carlos Queiroz is likely to stick with a compact block, keeping the lines tight and breaking forward quickly once possession is won back. Ghana does not need to dominate the ball to matter. It just needs to absorb the first waves and punish any loose touch or sloppy pass.
Antoine Semenyo is still a fitness doubt, but if he makes it, the transition threat changes immediately. Jordan Ayew brings experience and the ability to keep the ball under pressure, both of which could matter in a game where clear chances may be in short supply.
Probable lineups :
Colombia : Vargas; Munoz, Lucumi, Sanchez, Mojica; Puerta, Lerma, Arias; Rodriguez, Suarez, Diaz
Ghana : Asare; Senaya, Adjetey, Luckassen, Mensah; Sulemana, Partey, Owusu, Sibo, Semenyo; Ayew

World Cup 2026 Prediction : Colombia vs Ghana
Draw or Ghana win
Colombia deserve their favourite status, but the shape of this match gives Ghana a real opening. The Cafeteros will probably see more of the ball, but they will have to find answers against a side that is very good at shutting down the middle and dragging games into uncomfortable places.
The draw with England showed that the Black Stars can stand up to a side with more technical quality. Their lack of punch in attack is a concern, but in a knockout game their discipline and ability to kill the tempo could be enough to drag Colombia into a far tighter contest than expected.
Colombia have more individual quality, but Ghana has the perfect profile to frustrate a favourite: a deep block, plenty of duels, quick breaks and all the pressure on the other side.
in your pocket.

First, a word on our predictions
- What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We share an opinion, a read on the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal from nowhere… and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no risk-free bet. Even when something looks “obvious”, it never really is. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, you will at some point.
- The smart move is to stay sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Do not touch money you need for everyday life. And above all, do not chase losses. It rarely ends well.
- A bet should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts to take over your day, gets on your nerves or puts you under pressure, take a break. And if needed, speak to a specialist support service. That is what it is there for.
- At the end of the day, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never go away, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Important reminder: betting is forbidden to minors and must comply with the law in your country. Gambling can spiral fast (money lost, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us
Our predictions are not a contract. They carry no legal weight. Plain and simple: you cannot use them to claim anything if a bet does not come in.
Information changes
A prediction is always based on what we know when it is written. But then a team sheet changes, a player gets hurt, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be out of date. We cannot be held responsible for that.
Your role
Before you bet, make sure gambling is legal where you are. If it is not, that is your responsibility, not ours.
