Celta Vigo vs Osasuna: two clean starts, no goals anywhere 
No goals scored, no goals conceded. That is the identical opening ledger for Celta Vigo and Osasuna after their first outing in La Liga 2026-27.
The two clubs meet on Thursday 27 August at 20:30 Spanish time at the Abanca-Balaidos Stadium. One point apiece, sitting 11th and 12th in the table, there is barely a cigarette paper between them.
Celta ground out a 0-0 at Mestalla last Saturday against Valencia. Osasuna did exactly the same two days later at El Sadar against Levante.
That sort of start tells you plenty about both sides. The defensive blocks are doing their job, the transitions look tidy, but nobody has found a way to hurt teams in the final third yet.
The head-to-head record is one of the biggest in Spanish football: 80 meetings, 38 wins for the Galicians, 31 for the Navarre side. The last meeting went Osasuna’s way, a 2-1 win.
Balaidos is never an easy place for visitors, and Osasuna arrive with a worrying away record. That is where this one will be decided.
Valencia, Celta’s opponent last weekend, still have not scored in two games. Levante, who faced Osasuna on Monday, are carrying exactly the same attacking numbers.
So those clean sheets mean more for discipline than for the quality of the opposition. Worth remembering before we get carried away with either back line.
The table has them 11th and 12th, separated only by goal difference. After one round, there is nothing to split them.

Celta came away from Mestalla with a point and a clean sheet. Against a Valencia side that still have not scored in two matches, it is a decent result, but one that needs context.
Ionut Radu kept his goal shut behind a defensive line made up of Marcos Alonso, Javi Rodriguez and Javi Galan. The structure held for 90 minutes without cracking.
Up front, Ferran Jutgla led the line, with Hugo Alvarez and Jones El-Abdellaoui in support. The trio could not find a way through.
The home numbers are Celta’s strongest card. They have won two of their last three league games at Balaidos.
It is a ground where the crowd gets right behind the team and where visiting sides are forced into a scrap. Osasuna have felt that more than once in recent seasons.
The squad is fully fit, with no injuries or suspensions to report. That gives the Galician staff the chance to stick with a side that did enough on opening day.
Balaidos has seen two wins in Celta’s last three league home games. The crowd makes life awkward for any team that turns up to sit deep.
A Thursday night kick-off also changes the rhythm for the visitors. Osasuna will have to adjust to a midweek tempo they do not often face in Galicia.
Sergio Carreira and Aleix Febas gave Celta balance in midfield at Mestalla. The team need that base if they want to free Hugo Alvarez between the lines.
Ferran Jutgla will be under the microscope after a first match with no clear chance. He is the one who has to turn Celta’s control into goals.

Osasuna travel badly and still cannot find the net 
Osasuna began their season with a sluggish 0-0 against Levante on Monday night at El Sadar. Against a promoted side that have also failed to score in two games, that is hardly a ringing endorsement.
Ante Budimir led the line, with Aimar Oroz and Moi Gomez just behind him. The link-up did not produce much of anything.
Sergio Herrera also kept a clean sheet, shielded by Alejandro Catena and Jorge Herrando in the middle. That is where the positives end for the Navarre side.
The real issue is on the road. Osasuna have lost their last two league away games, which does not exactly inspire confidence ahead of a trip to Galicia.
The club did add more bite in wide areas this summer. Jonathan Dubasin arrived from Sporting Gijon in late July 2026 for 4 million euros, on a deal running until June 2030.
Like Celta, Osasuna go into this fixture with a full squad. It is about the only clear advantage they carry into the trip.
El Sadar was not enough to force a promoted side to crack on Monday night. Osasuna head to Balaidos with one point and no goals scored at home.
Ante Budimir remains the main attacking reference for the Navarre club, but he was short of service against Levante. Without decent delivery into the box, the Croatian striker cannot do much.
Ruben Garcia and Jon Moncayola bring the running and volume in midfield. The problem is higher up, in the final action.
Aimar Oroz is still the most creative player in the squad and will need a big performance in Galicia. Without him, Osasuna could be heading home with another blank.

Both teams come in off a 0-0 and sit on the same record in the table: one match played, no goals scored, none conceded. Neither Celta nor Osasuna has found the net this season.
Osasuna are looking for a result after two straight away defeats, which naturally pushes them towards caution. Celta, meanwhile, keep winning at home without ever really cutting loose going forward.
This has low-scoring game written all over it. Both defences are ahead of both attacks, and that should show again on Thursday at Balaidos.
