Bulldogs vs Eels : a derby to close out the weekend
Rugby league gives us a rare Monday fixture thanks to the public holiday in New South Wales.
The Bulldogs host the Eels in a derby that always has a bit extra about it, with both teams looking to bounce back after frustrating defeats last weekend.
In a season where every point is starting to matter in the race for the finals, nobody can afford another slip.
The Bulldogs are giving more and more cause for concern
Only a few weeks ago, Canterbury looked like they had found some much-needed stability.
Now the doubts are back in a hurry.
The 22-16 loss to the Tigers left a particularly poor taste, even if the margin was fairly tight.
The Bulldogs did control a few key areas of the game.
They finished with more possession, a strong completion rate and a handful of promising breaks.
But once again, the side came up short when it mattered most.
They moved the ball, they made the metres, but clear-cut chances were still too hard to find. Turning pressure into points is becoming a real issue. Even more worrying, the defence that was one of the club’s early-season strengths looks to be losing its edge.
The 39 missed tackles against the Tigers summed it up perfectly. When a team can no longer set the tempo or lock things down defensively, the warning lights start flashing.
Still, it’s not all bad news.
There is enough quality in this squad to hit back quickly. But the sense of urgency around the club is growing by the day.
The Eels show some fight despite their limits
Parramatta did not bring the two points back from Newcastle, but the Eels at least showed some backbone in difficult circumstances.
Missing several important players, they knew the trip to the Knights was always going to be a tough ask.
The problem is that a few mistakes made the job close to impossible. Thirteen turnovers, a low completion rate and 40 missed tackles are usually a deadly combination at this level.
Even so, the Eels stayed in the contest right to the end. Their pack in particular put in a decent shift, helping the side stay competitive for long spells.
That is one of the few reasons for optimism for Jason Ryles right now. Physically, Parramatta can mix it.
But their lack of control in the key areas of the field continues to hold them back. Poor exits and a series of loose kicks kept handing Newcastle extra chances.
In a rebuild, details like that usually decide the outcome.
Try it for $0.99.
NRL Prediction Bulldogs vs Eels
Bulldogs to win
The Bulldogs are going through a rough patch, but they remain the stronger and more complete side here.
They have shown more consistency across the season and should feed off home support to get back on track.
Parramatta keep scrapping hard, but their discipline and execution issues crop up too often to inspire full confidence.
In a derby that should be tight, the Bulldogs look to have enough to take the two points.

First, a word on our predictions
- What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We share an opinion, a read on the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a freak goal from nowhere… and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when something looks obvious, it never really is. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, you will at some point.
- The best approach is to stay sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Above all, do not touch money you need to live on. And never chase losses; it rarely ends well.
- A bet should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If you feel it is taking up too much space in your day, if it is getting on top of you or putting you under pressure, take a break. If needed, speak to a specialist organisation. That is what they are there for.
- At the end of the day, responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Important reminder: betting is not allowed for minors and must comply with the law in your country. Gambling can spiral fast (money problems, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us
Our predictions are not a contract. They carry no legal weight. Put simply: you cannot use them to demand anything if a bet loses.
Information changes
A prediction is always based on what we know when it is written. But in the meantime, a team sheet changes (like the Bulldogs’ one, for example), a player gets hurt, the weather turns… and the analysis can quickly be out of date. We cannot be held responsible for that.
Your responsibility
Before you bet, make sure betting is legal where you are. If it is not, that is your responsibility, not ours.
Responsible gambling first
We cannot say it enough: gamble in moderation. If you are struggling to stay in control, do not wait to get help. We cannot be responsible for compulsive or excessive use of the information published on the site.
Legal age
mathodds content is for adults only. By browsing here, you confirm that you are old enough by law to place bets.
