Brest vs Paris Saint-Germain: five points for one, two for the other, and a hierarchy starting to wobble 
Just two points on the board, a disastrous 13th-place standing and no league wins: the reigning champions head to Brittany under real pressure. Brest, meanwhile, sit seventh and are one of six unbeaten sides in Ligue 1. Kick-off is on Sunday 13 September at 20:45 at Francis-Le Ble.

Urgency in Paris: Beaten by Monaco before the break, Paris eased the heat with a 6-1 Champions League rout of Slovan Bratislava. But another slip in Ligue 1 would look ugly.

Brest full of belief: The Bretons have started well enough to fancy their chances and want the scalp of the holders to keep the momentum going.

History still looms large: PSG are unbeaten in 34 straight matches against Brest in all competitions. That is a record run in France, but form right now might just shuffle the deck.
One number says everything about Paris right now: they have conceded at least two goals in each of their last four league games. They have not gone through a spell like that since January and February 2005.
Brest arrive with their best opening since 2023-24, the season that ended with a third-place finish and a first ever Champions League campaign. Five points from three games is only one short of that pace.
There is, though, a huge historical weight pulling the other way. Paris have won their last seven meetings with Stade Brestois in all competitions.
Even more telling: the Parisians have not lost at Francis-Le Ble since 1985, when Brest won 3-1. Forty-one years without defeat on this pitch.
So this is short-term form against a long-standing power structure. That is exactly why this fixture is so easy to read.
The battle also comes down to who is peaking right now. Kamory Doumbia, with four goals in three games, is the league’s top scorer heading into the weekend.
For Paris, Ousmane Dembele and Ferran Torres came out of a European night with five goals between them. The quality gap is there, but it has not yet shown up in the league table.
Julien Lachuer can land his first home win in the top flight. Luis Enrique can chase his first win of the season, period. Two different kinds of pressure, same patch of grass.
Brest: a fresh start and the league’s top scorer 
Five points from three games is Brest’s best return at this stage since 2023-24, when they had six. The breakdown: two draws, at Le Mans (2-2) and at home to Toulouse (2-2), then a 2-1 win at Le Havre.
That victory in Normandy ended a run of 13 league matches without a win, a spell that began the previous season. Julien Lachuer got his first top-flight win as a coach there.
The way they play explains some of the turnaround. Brest have produced the second-highest total of big chances in the division after three rounds, a sign of a side looking to play on the front foot rather than sit back and manage games.
Kamory Doumbia is the man carrying the attack. His brace at Le Havre took him to the top of the Ligue 1 scoring chart with four goals.
The injury list is the one thing checking Brest’s momentum. Brendan Chardonnet is troubled by a calf issue, Mamady Diambou remains doubtful after taking a knock and Kenny Lala is carrying an ankle sprain picked up on matchday three.
There is one more detail worth noting when weighing up home advantage. Brest’s last league win at Francis-Le Ble came in a 2-0 victory over Le Havre in March.
So on Sunday, Lachuer can tick off his first home win in the top flight and extend his side’s unbeaten start to four games in one hit. Two targets, one match.
The schedule has also said plenty about this group’s edge. The two draws at Le Mans and against Toulouse both finished 2-2, which tells you this is a team that scores but also gives plenty away.
One more marker waits for Brest on Sunday. If they avoid defeat, they will take at least a point from their first four league matches for the first time this decade.

Paris Saint-Germain: the attack is fine, the back line is a mess 
Two draws in Rennes (2-2) and Lille (2-2), then a 2-1 home defeat to Monaco: PSG’s start fits on three lines and totals two points. A fourth league game without a win would be a first since 2018.
The problem is clear and it can be measured. They have conceded at least two goals in each of their last four Ligue 1 outings, a run they had not suffered since 2005.
The attack is not the issue. PSG hammered Slovan Bratislava 6-1 in their Champions League opener, with a hat-trick from Ferran Torres, a brace for Ousmane Dembele and another goal from Fabian Ruiz.
One stat points to the likely script. Paris have won their last 10 away Ligue 1 games when they have scored before half-time, and they have not managed that yet this season.
They have also given up a two-goal lead in each of their two league away games, only to claw back to level both times. They start badly and respond late. Not ideal.
Nuno Mendes is back after suspension and should return on the left, where Lucas Digne has had a shaky start in his new colours. Marquinhos, who scored against Monaco, remains the anchor at the back.
So Luis Enrique has a forward line producing in Europe and a defence that keeps leaking. That split is the whole story here.
The contrast could not be sharper. After scoring six on Thursday in the Champions League, the club still has not won a single Ligue 1 match this season.
And then comes PSG’s strongest case of all. Seven straight wins over Stade Brestois in all competitions, and no defeat at Francis-Le Ble for 41 years.
