Surgery next week, no cruciate damage
Fabien Brau-Boirie will be out for around four months. The 20-year-old Pau centre saw a surgeon on Tuesday after leaving the field on the hour mark of Pau’s 41-20 defeat at Toulon on Saturday night, and the left kneecap is the problem. The worst case, a ruptured cruciate ligament, has been ruled out, but an operation is planned for next week.
The exact length of his absence is still not certain. L’Equipe reports that four months is the working figure.

A blow for France and for Pau
Brau-Boirie has five caps and earned plenty of credit on the summer tour, which took in New Zealand, Australia and Japan. He had been expected to play in the second half of the Nations Championship in November, and that now goes. So does the opening of the Six Nations.
France have already lost a string of players ahead of those November tests. Kalvin Gourgues of Toulouse is the man in line to take over in the centre for the Fiji game in Lyon on 7 November, according to the report, after the first training session at Marcoussis.
When he could be back
The timeline points to a return at some point in 2027. That would give Brau-Boirie time to push for a strong finish to the club season with Pau. The longer view is the Rugby World Cup in Australia, which runs from 1 October to 13 November next year.
