Bournemouth vs Aston Villa: 17th in the league, perfect in Europe, against a side unbeaten in six
Bournemouth went into Sunday’s trip to Old Trafford 17th in the Premier League, with one win from seven games. In the Europa League they’ve won all three matches and haven’t conceded at home, beating Sturm Graz 3-0 and AC Milan 3-0 at the Vitality Stadium.
Aston Villa visit on Wednesday 28 October in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, kick-off 7:45pm UK time on Sky Sports+. Unai Emery’s side are unbeaten in six games in all competitions and beat Manchester City 2-1 at Villa Park on Saturday, City’s first league defeat of the season.
Villa have also won all three of their Champions League games: 3-2 at Club Brugge, 6-0 against Fenerbahçe and 3-1 against Viking on 21 October. They sit sixth in the league on 11 points.
The recent meetings have gone one way. Villa are unbeaten in the last six against Bournemouth, with three wins and three draws, including a 4-0 win at Villa Park in November 2025. The most recent game, at the Vitality in February, finished 1-1.
Both clubs are on their third game in eight days after European ties last week. Bournemouth host Leeds on Saturday 31 October and have another Europa League game on 5 November.
Bournemouth are favourites at around 2.15, with Villa at 3.00 and the draw at 3.40. We think the price on the visitors is too long.
Bournemouth: three Europa League wins and only one in the league under Marco Rose
Marco Rose replaced Andoni Iraola in the summer, and the split between competitions is wide. Bournemouth have six league points from seven games, nine goals scored and 13 conceded, while their European record reads three wins, eight goals for and one against. That run began with a 2-1 win at Real Sociedad in September.
The Milan win on 22 October showed what they can do with an advantage. Kluivert and Tavernier scored penalties in the first half-hour, Maignan was sent off around the 27th minute, and Adli added a free kick six minutes from time.
The league defeats have been heavy. Brentford drew 2-2 at the Vitality on 12 September, and Bournemouth then lost 1-0 at home to Liverpool a week later and 5-1 at Chelsea on 10 October. Their one league win came against Sunderland, 2-0 on 17 October, when Evanilson reached 100 career goals.
The cup run started with a 4-0 win over Lincoln on 8 September, when Christie scored a hat-trick and Rayan added the fourth in stoppage time. Rose made four changes for Old Trafford, bringing in Rayan, Adam Smith, Cook and Petrovic.
Alex Scott (thigh) and Araujo were out for the Milan game. Kroupi, who missed that match with an ankle injury, was back on the bench on Sunday.

Aston Villa: Jackson, Garnacho and a squad deep enough to rotate
Nicolas Jackson, signed from Chelsea on 28 August for a reported £65m, had three Champions League goals in two games before scoring after six minutes against City on Saturday. Haaland levelled on 52 minutes and Villa won it in the second half. Garnacho also arrived from Chelsea in July, and Goretzka and Manzambi joined in the summer.
Manzambi has three goals in four appearances, including the winner at Newcastle on 17 October, but he’s been carrying a calf problem. Wan-Bissaka (hamstring) isn’t due back until 21 November, and Maatsen (ankle), Onana (knee), Ruggeri (thigh) and Cissé are also out.
Emery has used this competition to give squad players minutes. After the 3-1 win at Coventry in the third round, when Abraham scored twice and Barkley got the other, he said: “This is a way for a trophy; this is as well for Europe.”
Harwood-Bellis isn’t registered for the Champions League, so a cup start would make sense for him, alongside players such as Mbaye and Abraham who featured at Coventry. Barkley also scored against Viking and Buendía converted a penalty in that game.
The league start was slower than the European one, with a 2-2 draw at home to Brentford on 10 October and three defeats in the first eight games. Since that Brentford draw Villa have won four in a row in all competitions, scoring 12 goals and conceding two.

Our prediction: Aston Villa to win (3.00)
We’re backing Villa. They’ve won four straight games since the Brentford draw, including the win over City, and their squad has the depth to make changes without losing much quality, as the 3-1 win at Coventry showed.
The head-to-head supports the pick. Bournemouth haven’t beaten Villa in their last six attempts, and Villa have scored at least once in each of those games. On their last three visits to the south coast Villa drew 2-2 in December 2023, won 1-0 in May 2025 and drew 1-1 in February.
The case against is Bournemouth’s home form in Europe, with two 3-0 wins and no goals conceded at the Vitality. Their league record of one win in seven weighs more for us, and Aston Villa to win at 3.00 is our pick.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes
A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
