Bordeaux finally got back on a pitch on Sunday, away to Saintes, against a Departmental 2 side. A French Cup third-round tie delayed by a week, played behind closed doors. The result? A comfortable 4-0 win.
Alexandre Kalyvas got things moving in the 16th minute. El Hadji M’Boup made it 2-0 on 31 minutes. Noa Cebola added a third straight after the break, on 48 minutes. Hichem Abderrebi wrapped it up in the 87th.

A club that still does not know where it will be playing
The result is not the main story. The backdrop is.
Bordeaux still does not know which league it will be in this season. A club of this size, six-time French champions, reduced to a regional French Cup tie as its only official fixture by late September. And even that was played in an empty stadium.
The fans saw none of it. Not the first goal, not the last, not even the players on the teamsheet. For a club built on its crowd, that is a grim way to get going.
Angouleme up next
The reward is modest, but it is real. Bordeaux are through to the fourth round and will face Angouleme, a National 1 side and the old N2.
The opposition will be a step up from Saintes. In truth, that is almost a relief. At this stage, Bordeaux need games, tempo and some kind of rhythm. Anything that even vaguely resembles a season.
Four goals, one round gone, and the same old question hanging over the club.
