National 1: Bordeaux head to court on Monday to save their season

Appeal set for Monday

The CNOSF has given Bordeaux a negative opinion. The body is recommending that the club stay out of the national leagues. Dominique Delport is not stopping there.

At Saturday’s friendly against Chauray, the incoming Bordeaux president laid out the next step. “We will file an injunction at the administrative court on Monday and use every possible legal avenue.” There is no room for doubt about what he means.

His main argument is the timing. In his view, the situation has changed since the appeal commission’s ruling on July 15, with new investors now on board and funding presented as secure, according to L’Equipe.

Twenty million and an escrow account

Delport spelled out the guarantees offered by the Park Bench takeover bid. “The new investors are putting roughly 20 million euros on the table, 10 million into an escrow account, 10 million with JP Morgan, to provide visibility over several seasons.”

The structure is designed to answer the main criticism aimed at successive would-be buyers over the past two years: financial strength. Parking half the money in escrow is a direct response to that charge.

The commitment goes further. “It is a team that is committed to respecting the 2025-2035 continuity plan, which includes, among other things, paying the 400 creditors,” the executive said. That figure alone tells its own story about the mountain of debt the club has piled up.

Liquidation looming

The real issue is no longer about football. “Right up to the last moment, if we believe that with a credible project and secured funding, we can give Bordeaux, its supporters, the players and the staff something other than the threat of liquidation, pay the creditors and get this new momentum started.”

A six-time French champion is now fighting simply to survive. The administrative court will rule on an urgent application, by definition a fast-track procedure. Bordeaux are gambling in a matter of days on something that usually takes months to settle.
