Out of work since June, tied down until 2027
Number 28. That is what Yves Bissouma will wear in Amsterdam after signing with Ajax on a deal that runs to 30 June 2027.
The Mali international had been a free agent since his Tottenham contract ran out over the summer, and he was not short of suitors around Europe. Ajax started working the file in August, with Jordi Cruyff pushing it.
“We are delighted he has now signed. We have brought in an experienced player who knows what it takes to operate at the highest level,” the Amsterdam director said.

Bissouma is 30, and every club on his CV sits in Europe. Lille took him on in 2016. Brighton came two years later, four seasons on England’s south coast. Tottenham followed in 2022.
Amsterdam makes four.
What sold Ajax was the range. “He can play in several positions and we hope he will be available for the team as quickly as possible,” Cruyff added.
That second half of the quote is the interesting bit. A player without a club since the end of June does not walk straight into match rhythm.
A dressing room that barely looks the same
He walks into a squad rebuilt over a few months. Marcos Leonardo, Viktor Tsygankov, Sofyan Amrabat and Marc-Andre ter Stegen all came through the door in the last window.
Bissouma fits the pattern Cruyff has been describing since talks opened, a midfielder who covers ground and covers roles.
When he gets into the XI is anyone’s guess. The Eredivisie does not slow down for late arrivals, and Ajax have stocked up to go after the title this season.
