Buffalo Bills vs New England Patriots: a seven-point line built on six interceptions
Six interceptions in three games. That is the figure Drake Maye carries into Orchard Park on Sunday, and it frames the entire analytical case for this AFC East meeting.
The Buffalo Bills host the New England Patriots on Sunday 4 October at Highmark Stadium, in Week 4 of the NFL season. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m. ET, which means 19:00 Paris time.
The records point in one direction. Buffalo are 3-0 after a 24-16 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, while New England sit at 1-2 following a 35-6 defeat in Jacksonville.
The market has reacted accordingly. Buffalo have moved between -6.5 and the key number of -7, with the total holding at 48.5 points.
The moneyline confirms the gap: Buffalo are priced at 1.34 and New England at 3.40. At that price, a straight win on the Bills offers no value, so the analysis has to move to the handicap.
Two variables decide whether a seven-point margin is realistic. The first is New England’s ball security, and the second is Buffalo’s own tendency to give possessions away, as seen in the five-turnover game against the Chargers.
The injury report adds a third layer. New England were missing several starters on both sides of the ball at Thursday practice, and that shapes how much resistance they can offer for four quarters on the road.
Buffalo Bills Analysis
Buffalo arrive unbeaten after three weeks, and the profile behind that record is balanced. The Bills have already won shootouts and more controlled games, which gives them two distinct routes to a comfortable result.
Josh Allen remains the central piece. His ability to turn short fields into touchdowns quickly is precisely what makes opposing turnovers so costly against this team.
The win over the Chargers was not clean, however. Buffalo committed five turnovers in that game and still won by eight, which tells you about the ceiling but also about the volatility.
The practice report carries some concerns. Christian Benford missed practice, while Keon Coleman and DJ Moore were limited during the week.
The structure around the quarterback is stable, though. Buffalo’s quarterback situation and offensive line are in far better shape than New England’s, which matters more than a limited receiver.
The path to covering is straightforward. If the Bills protect the ball, they can build separation through field position, Allen’s mobility and a deeper rushing attack, then lean on the run in the second half.

New England Patriots Analysis
New England’s 35-6 loss in Jacksonville was the clearest data point of their season. It exposed a real gap between the Patriots and the stronger teams in the AFC.
The offensive output backs that up. The Patriots have scored only 36 points through three games, an average of 12 per outing.
Drake Maye practiced fully despite carrying a right shoulder designation. His issue is not availability but decision-making, with six interceptions already on his record this season.
The absences elsewhere are more damaging. Christian Barmore, Christian Gonzalez and Morgan Moses all failed to participate in Thursday practice, which touches the defensive front, the secondary and the offensive line at once.
That combination is hard to manage in Orchard Park. Without Gonzalez in coverage and Moses at tackle, New England lose a cornerback who can match up with Buffalo’s receivers and a lineman who keeps Maye upright.
The only viable game plan is conservative. The Patriots need efficient early-down runs and defined reads for Maye, because repeated third-and-long situations against this defense would invite more turnovers.
Probable lineup Buffalo Bills: QB Josh Allen; WR DJ Moore and Keon Coleman (both limited in practice); CB Christian Benford doubtful after missing practice. Full depth chart not announced at time of publication.
Probable lineup New England Patriots: QB Drake Maye (full practice, shoulder designation); DT Christian Barmore, CB Christian Gonzalez and OT Morgan Moses uncertain after missing Thursday practice. Full depth chart not announced at time of publication.
Free NFL Prediction: Buffalo Bills vs New England Patriots
Our prediction: Buffalo Bills -7 (handicap) @ 1.95
The case rests on three measurable factors: a quarterback with six interceptions facing a team that converts short fields, an offense averaging 12 points per game, and injuries across all three units of the visiting roster. Buffalo do not need a perfect game to clear seven points if New England keep handing over possessions.
Both previews consulted this week side with Buffalo on the spread, one at -6.5 and the other at -7 with a projected 30-17 final. At -7, a touchdown win returns the stake, which provides a measure of protection on the key number.
The main risk is Buffalo’s own turnover profile, as five giveaways against the Chargers showed. Even with that in mind, the gap in roster health and offensive production is wide enough to back the Bills to win by more than a touchdown.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses, that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation, that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
