Benfica vs Saint-Gall – Free Europa League Prediction – July 30, 2026

Benfica vs Saint-Gall: the Lisbon side cant afford another slip-up Fichier:Logo UEFA Europa League - 2021.svg — Wikipédia

The trip to Switzerland did not give Marco Silva the start he wanted. Beaten 2-1 by Saint-Gall in the first leg, Benfica must turn the tie around in front of their own fans if they are to keep their Europa League run alive. Even a one-goal win would only take the game to extra time.

The tie is still very much alive. Benfica return to an Estadio da Luz where they are usually strong, while Saint-Gall will try to protect a lead earned through a very efficient display.

Benfica need to set the tempo Benfica

The Eagles probably left Switzerland with regrets. After Rafa Silva levelled before half-time, they looked to have taken control before folding in the closing stages. That late setback now leaves the Lisbon side chasing the tie.

Back in Lisbon, though, they have a strong case. Last season, Benfica regularly showed their attacking power at home, often putting several goals past visitors. In front of their own supporters, the Portuguese club should look to seize control early and put their opponents under pressure.

Marco Silva also gets a few useful options back. Pavlidis remains the main threat up front, while Jhon Duran joins the squad. The return of several internationals also gives the group more depth, and theyll need every bit of it.

The Swiss club head to Lisbon full of confidence after back-to-back competitive wins. Their victory over Zurich last weekend confirmed that the mood is much better than it was at the end of pre-season.

Saint-Gall know this will be a very different test in Lisbon, though. They are likely to sit deeper and look to spring forward quickly, hoping to catch a Benfica side that will have to open up.

Aliou Balde and Carlo Boukhalfa are their main attacking dangers. If they can use the space well, they could cause problems, even if the priority will be to protect the lead they built in the first leg against Benfica.

Expected lineups :

Benfica : Trubin ; Bah, A. Silva, Lenglet, Dahl ; Figueiredo, M. Silva ; R. Silva, Sudakov, Kaminski ; Pavlidis.

Saint-Gall : Ati-Zigi ; Gaal, Stanic, Okoroji ; Vandermersch, Gortler, Daschner, Boukhalfa, Stevanovic ; Witzig, Balde.

Europa League prediction : Benfica vs Saint-Gall

Both teams to score : no

Benfica should take charge from the first whistle as they try to claw back the deficit. The Portuguese side have no choice but to attack, but they also have a defence capable of dealing with transitions better than they did in the first leg, especially at home.

Saint-Gall should stay cautious. With a one-goal cushion, the Swiss have no reason to go chasing the game and will be focused on staying compact for as long as possible to protect their place in the next round.

That points to a match where Benfica can do enough to make the difference while keeping the visitors at arm’s length. If the Lisbon side rediscover the home form they showed last season, only one team scoring looks a realistic outcome.

Before anything else, a word on our predictions

  • What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We give an opinion, a read on the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is still sport: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal from nowhere… and the script changes completely.
  • Lets be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when something looks “obvious”, it never really is. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, you will at some point.
  • The smart move is to keep things sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Dont touch money you need to live on. And above all, dont chase losses. That usually ends badly.
  • A bet should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If you feel its taking up too much space in your life, winding you up or putting you under pressure, take a break. And if needed, speak to a specialist organisation. Thats what theyre there for.
  • At the end of the day, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and never really goes away, even with the best analysis in the world.
  • Important reminder: betting is forbidden to minors and must comply with the law in your country. Gambling can spiral fast (money losses, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.

No commitment from us

Our predictions are not a contract. They have no legal force. In plain English: you cannot rely on them to claim anything if a bet loses.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know when its written. But in the meantime, a team sheet can change, a player can get injured, the weather can turn, and the analysis can quickly be out of date. We cannot be held responsible for that.
