Bundesliga: Batshuayi leaves Eintracht Frankfurt for Abha

Frankfurt sign off on an immediate exit

Eintracht Frankfurt announced on Monday that Michy Batshuayi has left the club. The German side and Saudi outfit Abha have agreed a transfer with immediate effect.

The club statement was short and sharp. The Belgian striker had originally been under contract until 2027 in the Bundesliga. The length of his deal in Saudi Arabia was not disclosed.

So his time in Germany is over after a year and a half.

Four goals in 21 games tells you most of it

The numbers go a long way to explaining the split. Batshuayi scored four goals in 21 appearances for Eintracht. That is nowhere near enough for a striker of his profile at a club that expects to be in Europe every season.

The Belgium international is a familiar face to fans in France. He spent time in Ligue 1 before building a stop-start career across England, Germany, Spain and Turkey.

At 32, he is off to another new market.

Fekir first, Batshuayi next: Abha keep spending

The Saudi club knows the drill. Abha had already brought in Nabil Fekir this summer, another name well known in French football.

The plan is easy to read: take experienced players with stacked European CVs who still have something to offer on the pitch, at a stage of their careers when the money starts to talk. Batshuayi ticks those boxes.
