Bath vs Sale Sharks: six straight wins over Sale, 94 points conceded in two league games
Bath conceded 71 points at Franklin’s Gardens and then scored five at Kingsholm. The 71-48 defeat to Northampton and last Friday’s 23-5 loss to Gloucester have left Johann van Graan’s side sixth in the Premiership with 11 points after four rounds.
Sale Sharks visit the Recreation Ground on Saturday 31 October, kick-off 15:05 UK time, two points behind them in seventh. They lost 17-3 at Newcastle Red Bulls last weekend, and George Ford kicked every one of their points.
The fixture’s history sits with Bath. Sale have lost the last six meetings, Bath have won the last four at home, including 28-16 at the Rec last season, and across 41 games Bath lead 23 wins to 16, with two draws.
The prices reflect that. Bath are 1.16 to win, and the handicap has settled at 13.5 points.
Bath’s injury list keeps this from being a formality. Santi Carreras left the Gloucester game unable to put weight on his knee, and Guy Pepper withdrew with an ankle injury the same night.
Bath: 40 points against Exeter at the Rec, five at Kingsholm, and a growing injury list
Bath opened with two wins. They won 33-17 at Harlequins and beat Exeter 40-34 at the Rec, their only home league game so far.
Then came the 71-48 defeat at Northampton and last Friday’s trip to Gloucester. At Kingsholm, George Barton kicked three first-half penalties, Gloucester went in 9-5 up, and Bath didn’t score again.
Head of medical services Rory Murray confirmed the Carreras knee injury is serious, though no diagnosis or return date has been given. Pepper’s ankle also rules him out of England’s Nations Championship squad.
Sam Underhill is out until early December after bicep surgery. Dan du Preez pulled a hamstring in training and won’t play on Saturday, and Jamie Bhatti is working towards a New Year return from a fractured forearm.
Will Muir, Henry Arundell and Tom de Glanville have all resumed team training. Thompson Cowan and Billy Sela are expected back in the coming weeks.

Sale Sharks: Ford scored all three points at Newcastle, and the attack has stalled
Sale lost 17-3 at Newcastle Red Bulls last weekend, the Red Bulls’ first win of the season. Ford’s penalty was the only score Sale managed in 80 minutes.
Their two league wins came 28-24 at home to Harlequins and 21-17 at Saracens. Their two defeats were the Newcastle game and a 34-24 home loss to Bristol.
Tom Curry withdrew from the Harlequins game on 11 October through illness. The England flanker had spent the summer recovering from hip surgery and returned to pre-season seven weeks behind his team-mates.
Ford’s kicking game is how Sale travel. Their two away matches have produced 20 and 38 points in total. Bath’s four league games have averaged 67.75 points.
Against Bath the recent record is six defeats in a row. Bath have also won the last four meetings at the Rec, including last season’s 28-16.

Free Rugby Prediction: Bath vs Sale Sharks
Our prediction: Bath -13.5 handicap
Sale scored three points at Newcastle and have lost six straight to Bath. Bath, even short of Carreras, Pepper, Underhill and du Preez, put 40 on Exeter in their only home league game, and Bath have won the last four meetings at the Rec.
I’ll concede the obvious: Bath have lost their last two league games and conceded 94 points doing it. If Sale’s kicking game drags this into a slow, territorial match, the margin gets harder to reach.
I still don’t see Sale scoring enough to stay inside two converted tries. Bath -13.5 is available at 1.72, and that’s the pick.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes
A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
