A Bible verse and a promise, hours after signing
Benoit Badiashile had not yet walked onto the Diego Armando Maradona turf when he addressed his new supporters. The message went up on Instagram a few hours after Chelsea confirmed the loan.

Nothing about this was quick. London’s demands stalled the talks for weeks, and there were several points this month where the move looked finished. Agreement only came in the closing stretch of the window.
Badiashile needed the exit as much as Napoli needed the player. He arrived at Stamford Bridge in January 2023 from Monaco for close to 40 million euros, then spent three years in a defence that gets torn up and rebuilt every summer. Muscle injuries filled in the gaps. His last full season was in the Principality.

The Campania side started Serie A with a 2-0 win at Genoa, Kevin De Bruyne among the scorers. What the squad did not have was a left-footed centre-back capable of absorbing minutes across three competitions.
So this is a role, not a punt. He is 25. He was a Monaco starter at 18, capped by France soon after moving to England, then parked. Serie A hands him a tactical environment where a defender who reads play well can put a career back together.
