Diousse’s ACL set it all in motion
It took a torn cruciate to unlock a deal that had been stuck for months.
Assane Diousse goes down. Auxerre are suddenly thin in midfield, with no time to deliberate. The Burgundy club moved fast on Pierre Ekwah, and Foot Mercato reports ASSE and AJA struck an agreement on Wednesday: a paid loan worth 300,000 euros, with a 6 million purchase option that carries no obligation.

Six months of training, not one minute played
His position at Saint-Etienne had become impossible. At odds with the board since the winter, Ekwah kept turning up to training once pre-season restarted. He never got on the pitch.
Zero minutes across the Greens’ friendlies. He was holding out for a move worth taking, and the club wanted him gone.
Before that came Watford, a Championship loan for the back half of last season that produced seven appearances. Not the springboard anybody had in mind.
Auxerre hand him a top-flight lifeline
Now he is in Auxerre, and back in Ligue 1. The club get a ball-winner available immediately, which counts for a lot when the fixture list refuses to pause for injured players.
Ekwah gets minutes. That is the only thing he has wanted since last summer.
The 6 million option is optional. Everything rests on what he produces between now and the spring.
