Nine Unanswered Runs
The Athletics trailed 6-0 and looked finished. Then the lineup scored nine straight runs to beat the Angels 9-7 and snap a six-game losing streak. Shea Langeliers started the comeback in the sixth inning with a double that scored on Lawrence Butler’s triple, and a Jeff McNeil grounder that turned into an error added another run to cut the deficit.
Carlos Cortes delivered the turning point in the seventh with a pinch-hit RBI triple, and Langeliers followed with an RBI single to pull the Athletics within two runs at 6-4. The eighth inning settled it. Cortes went deep for a two-run home run off Sam Bachman to put the Athletics ahead, and Zack Gelof added another two-run shot in the same frame to put the game away.

Trout Could Not Stop the Bleeding
Los Angeles got contributions across the lineup. Denzer Guzman hit a solo home run and finished with four RBIs, Vaughn Grissom collected three hits and two RBIs, and Mike Trout added three hits and scored twice. None of it mattered once the Athletics found their rhythm in the middle innings, and a 6-0 lead evaporated into a 9-7 loss.
Standings Stakes
The Athletics improved to 62-95 with the win, a number that will not move the needle in the standings but ends a six-game skid at a point in the season when momentum matters for roster evaluation heading into next year. The Angels dropped to 60-97 and inch closer to triple-digit losses, a mark the franchise has never reached in its history. Three games remain to avoid that distinction.
