Atalanta vs Venezia: three defeats in a row meets the only pointless side in Serie A Serie A

Zero points. Five games, five defeats. Venezia are the only team in Serie A without a single point on the board, and they turn up in Bergamo on Monday night as the clear bottom side.

Atalanta aren’t exactly flying. Maurizio Sarri’s side went into the international break on three straight losses, to Roma, Cagliari and Juventus. Six points, 11th place, and murmurs about whether his style suits this squad have already started.

Kick-off is Monday 12 October at 18:30 Paris time at the New Balance Arena, closing out Matchday 6. It’s the kind of fixture that looks made to order for a side needing a reset.

But there’s a catch. Atalanta have scored five goals in five league games. That’s the output of a team still learning Sarri’s patterns, not one that’s cruising. They’ve been passing their way into dead ends.

Venezia, meanwhile, have shipped 13 goals across their last five outings. Do the maths and the gap is obvious. The bookmakers agree, with Atalanta around 1.55 to win, the draw near 4.10 and Venezia out at 5.25.

Atalanta: Sarri’s project is stuck in second gear Atalanta

Three losses on the spin. Roma, Cagliari, then a 2-0 defeat in Turin against Juventus. Each one on its own is explainable. Three in a row takes some explaining.

The problem isn’t the defence, really. Across their last five matches, Atalanta have conceded six, which is mid-table and nothing more. The issue is the other end. Four goals in that stretch, and a front line that hasn’t found its rhythm in Sarri’s possession-heavy system.

That’s the price of a tactical rebuild. Sarri football asks for patience, triangles and endless circulation. Atalanta spent the best part of a decade playing direct, man-to-man football under Gian Piero Gasperini. You don’t rewire that in five weeks.

The injury list doesn’t help. Odilon Kossounou and Giacomo Raspadori are both out. Isak Hien is working his way back from a knock picked up at the World Cup, and Kamaldeen Sulemana is a doubt.

Still, the spine is intact. Franck Kessie and Ederson should anchor the midfield, Charles De Ketelaere keeps drifting into pockets, and Nikola Krstovic leads the line. Against the worst defence in the division, this is a game Atalanta can ill afford to drop.

Venezia: five defeats, 13 goals conceded, and a treatment room that’s overflowing Venezia

Venezia came up with money to spend and ambition to match. Five games later, they’re bottom with nothing to show for it. There’s no sugarcoating it.

The frustrating part for Giovanni Stroppa is that his side haven’t been hopeless. They lost 3-2 at Frosinone and 4-2 against Fiorentina, games where they scored twice and still walked off empty-handed. Then came a flat 2-0 home defeat to Lazio just before the break.

Can they defend? That’s the real question. Thirteen goals conceded in their last five outings says no. Their back three has looked exposed every time a side has moved the ball quickly through midfield.

And the squad is thin. Busio and Franjic are out. Mazzocchi, Haps, Basic, Adorante, Bella-Kotchap, Sverko and Dagasso are all doubts. That’s half a matchday squad sat in the physio’s room.

Venezia will look to counter. John Yeboah has the pace to hurt anyone in transition. But you can’t build a game plan on one quick winger while the back line keeps leaking. Not a great time to visit Bergamo.

Probable lineup Atalanta: Carnesecchi; Bellanova, Scalvini, Kristensen, Bernasconi; Samardzic, Kessie, Ederson; De Ketelaere, Krstovic, Rowe
Probable lineup Venezia: Stankovic; Schingtienne, Juan, Matias Moreno; Hainaut, Kike Perez, Sohm, Helgason, Correia; Yeboah, Adams

Free Serie A Prediction: Atalanta vs Venezia

Our prediction: Atalanta to win @ 1.55

Venezia have lost every league game they’ve played. They concede more than two a match on recent evidence and they’re arriving with a long list of injured or doubtful players. That’s the profile of a side that’s there to be beaten.

Atalanta’s slump is real, but it came against Roma, Cagliari and Juventus, three sides in the top seven. This is a completely different level of opposition, at home, with a squad that’s simply stronger in every line.

Sarri needs a win to quieten the noise. He gets it here. Atalanta take the points.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal — and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses — that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation — that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns — and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
