A big-name grab for MLS
CF Montreal look to have pulled off a major coup. According to The Athletic, the Canadian club are set to sign Alexis Sanchez. The news broke overnight. The 37-year-old Chilean is expected to fill a designated player slot. Montreal have not announced it yet, but the club has dropped enough hints. A video doing the rounds on social media shows chief executive Luca Saputo on the phone. You can hear him say: “He wants Alexis, the No. 10.” The message is pretty clear.
Sanchez is coming off a season in Seville, in La Liga. He scored four goals and set up two more in 28 appearances. Hardly eye-catching numbers for a player of his calibre. But his record speaks for itself.

A trophy haul that commands respect
The winger defined an era at Barcelona, Arsenal, Manchester United and Inter Milan. He won La Liga with Barca in 2013. He lifted two Serie A titles with Inter, in 2021 and 2024. That is two of Europe’s big five leagues already on his resume. On the international stage, he remains a benchmark. Sanchez is Chile’s all-time leading scorer with 51 goals. He also holds the national cap record, with 168.
MLS keeps pulling in the names
The North American league is rolling out the red carpet. Sanchez follows a familiar pattern in this summer window. Robert Lewandowski has signed for Chicago Fire. Antoine Griezmann has joined Orlando City. Casemiro has landed at Inter Miami, alongside Lionel Messi. Montreal want a slice of the action. The No. 10 waiting for Sanchez says plenty about the club’s ambitions. Now it is just a case of the announcement. It should not be far away.
