Ajax vs PSV Eindhoven: the first De Topper is here already 
Ajax host PSV Eindhoven on Saturday, September 5 at 8:00pm local time at the Johan Cruijff ArenA. Neither club has lost in the Eredivisie this season.
PSV sit second with ten points from four games, Ajax are fourth with seven from just three. That game in hand changes the picture completely.
The reigning champions are chasing a fourth straight title under Peter Bosz. Ajax are one of the sides expected to stop them.
PSV last won in Amsterdam in November 2022. Ajax also come in unbeaten in five meetings with their rivals, with two wins and three draws.
That run ended a brutal spell: seven defeats in nine meetings, including six in a row, until the 1-1 draw in February 2024. The last clash, in May, finished with Mika Godts equalising in the 92nd minute.
Both coaches like to take risks going forward. Four of the last six meetings have gone over 2.5 goals, and there is little to suggest either side will suddenly become cautious on Saturday.
Ajax sold Mika Godts to PSG and Wout Weghorst to FC Twente this summer, yet the attack has barely blinked. PSV lost Ismael Saibari and Joey Veerman, and still boast the best attack in the division.
Both clubs have shipped out major players in a matter of weeks. That ability to keep reloading is part of why they have pulled away from the rest of the Eredivisie.
Ajax score plenty and concede plenty too 
Ajax thumped Telstar 4-0 last week, with Steven Berghuis involved in three goals. The clean sheet ended a run of four straight matches in which they had conceded at least twice.
That defensive record sums up the approach under Michel: outscore the other lot rather than shut the door. The 4-2 and 5-3 wins over Sion in the Conference League playoff backed that up.
The overall record is still strong, with 13 unbeaten in all competitions. But the 2-2 draws with Shelbourne and Heerenveen are a reminder that this side can still look fragile.
Tolu Arokodare, loaned from Wolverhampton this summer, has become the focal point up front. The Nigerian will be aiming for a fourth straight game with a goal.
Sofyan Amrabat, signed until 2028 on August 30, and Simon Adingra, loaned from Sunderland on September 2 and now carrying a foot issue, are not expected to start. The two late-window arrivals have come too late to shape this one.
Daley Blind and Rayane Bounida are both ruled out. Michel should stick with the XI that tore Telstar apart.
The European run tells you as much about the side as anything. Ajax needed five goals over two legs to get past Sion in the Conference League playoff.
So the 4-0 over Telstar looks like the exception, not the rule. The Johan Cruijff ArenA has not seen many cagey nights since the season restarted.

PSV have the best attack in the division 
PSV started the season badly, smashed 4-0 by AZ Alkmaar in the Johan Cruyff Shield and then held to a 2-2 draw by Fortuna Sittard on the opening weekend.
Since then, they have put things right: 2-1 at Excelsior, 5-1 against Groningen, 6-1 at Utrecht. No one has scored more in the Eredivisie so far.
The departures of Ismael Saibari and Joey Veerman have not unsettled Bosz’s team. In fact, five players are tied at the top of the club scoring charts with two goals each: Dest, Perisic, Van Bommel, Til and Pepi.
That spread makes life harder for defenders, but it also hints at the lack of a single standout finisher. Ricardo Pepi should lead the line on Saturday night.
The treatment room is still busy with Jerdy Schouten, out with an ACL injury, Sam Ouaissa with a hamstring problem and Alassane Plea. Ruben van Bommel and Sam Lammers will be assessed before kick-off.
A win in Amsterdam would move PSV six points clear of Ajax. The stakes go well beyond local bragging rights.
PSV have not won in Amsterdam since November 2022, which is a strange stat for the three-time champions. Bosz will not need reminding.
The 6-1 win at Utrecht shows, though, that they can do real damage away from home. They had already won at Excelsior before that.

Ajax conceded at least two goals in four straight games before shutting out Telstar. PSV, meanwhile, have scored 11 goals in their last two league matches.
Four of the last six meetings have gone over 2.5 goals, and neither manager is interested in parking the bus. Missing defenders in Eindhoven only strengthen that case.
Back over 3.5 goals. A tight, locked-down game has never really been part of this fixture, and these two attacks are not about to make it one now.
PSV also leaked four against AZ in the Johan Cruyff Shield and two against Fortuna Sittard. Once the pace rises, their back line can be got at.
