Signed, sealed, and effective immediately
Ajax have their holding midfielder. The Amsterdam club confirmed Sofyan Amrabat’s arrival on Sunday, with the Morocco international tied down until 30 June 2028 and available straight away.
The pieces had been falling into place since Saturday. By Sunday afternoon it was official.

Cruijff wanted power, and he says he got it
Jordi Cruijff, the sporting director, laid out the thinking behind the deal. Physical strength. Technical quality. International mileage. Three boxes, all ticked.
There was a more practical argument too. Amrabat has played in the Eredivisie before, which cuts the usual adaptation period down to almost nothing. “We’ve signed exactly the sort of player we were looking for,” Cruijff said.
The screen in front of the defence has been missing all summer
Ajax needed a shield. Amrabat is one, a midfielder who wins the ball back, takes the physical side of the game seriously, and does not lose it with his first pass.
The open question is timing. The club is not signing him to sit. They expect him in the XI within weeks, not months.
